Als ich Kind war, hatt' ich einen süßen Hund,
Ein Gemisch aus vielen Rassen kunterbunt.
Doch nach der Schule einst, da war die Wohnung leer,
Mein Begleiter und mein Freund, er kam nicht mehr.
Meine Schiffe kehrten heim vom Sturm verzagt,
Wo man keinen Hund je vor die Türe jagt.
Vater suchte Trost für mein verlorenes Glück
Und am Tag darauf bracht er den Hund zurück.

The Dog

When I was a child, I had a sweet dog,
A mixture of many colorful breeds.
But after school one day, the apartment was empty,
