من بیمایه که باشم که خریدار تو باشم
حیف باشد که تو یار من و من یار تو باشم
تو مگر سایه لطفی به سر وقت من آری
که من آن مایه ندارم که به مقدار تو باشم
خویشتن بر تو نبندم که من از خود نپسندم
که تو هرگز گل من باشی و من خار تو باشم
هرگز اندیشه نکردم که کمندت به من افتد
که من آن وقع ندارم که گرفتار تو باشم
هرگز اندر همه عالم نشناسم غم و شادی
مگر آن وقت که شادی خور و غمخوار تو باشم
گذر از دست رقیبان نتوان کرد به کویت
مگر آن وقت که در سایه زنهار تو باشم
گر خداوند تعالی به گناهیت بگیرد
گو بیامرز که من حامل اوزار تو باشم
مردمان عاشق گفتار من ای قبله خوبان
چون نباشند که من عاشق دیدار تو باشم
من چه شایسته آنم که تو را خوانم و دانم
مگرم هم تو ببخشی که سزاوار تو باشم
گر چه دانم که به وصلت نرسم بازنگردم
تا در این راه بمیرم که طلبکار تو باشم
نه در این عالم دنیا که در آن عالم عقبی
همچنان بر سر آنم که وفادار تو باشم
خاک بادا تن سعدی اگرش تو نپسندی
که نشاید که تو فخر من و من عار تو باشم

Sa'di

I am too insubstantial to be Your buyer,
It would be a pity if You were my lover and I Yours.
Do You perchance cast a shadow of kindness upon me,
For I have not the substance to be Your equal?
I will not bind myself to You, for I do not like myself,
So that You would never be my rose and I Your thorn.
I never thought Your lasso would fall upon me,
For I am not of such consequence that I should be ensnared by You.
I know neither sorrow nor joy in all the world,
Except when I sorrow for You and rejoice in You.
I cannot pass by Your rivals,
Unless I am in the shade of Your protection.
If God Almighty punishes You for Your sin,
Say 'forgive me' so that I may bear Your burden.
Lovers of my words, O fair idol,
How can they exist, since I am a lover of Your face?
How am I worthy to call You mine or to know You?
Unless You should pardon me so that I may be worthy of You.
Although I know I will not attain union with You, I will not turn back,
So that I may die on this path, being Your debtor.
Not in this worldly realm, but in the next world,
I will still be steadfast in my loyalty to You.
May the dust be upon the body of Sa'di if You do not like him,
