Au début il y avait la terre, la mer et le ciel
Des forêts verdoyantes et des rivières de miel
Des fruits d'or poussaient sur les arbres
La vigne s'enlaçait discrètement sur les colonnes de marbre
Où nichaient des oiseaux de toutes espèces
Dans un ballet sempiternel c'était une pièce
Mise en scène par un maître parfait
Et dans ce tableau l'homme fût élevé, on racontait
Que si l'Eden fût l'écrin de ce monde établi
L'humain devait être le rubis qui l'avait serti
Peut-être à sa première heure
Lorsqu'il n'avait pas peur des choses qui meurent, le bonheur était
Une somme de choses simples d'une vie
Dans un état appelé harmonie
L'homme prosperait, le monde embellissait
Dans cette ère de paix le roi s'appelait Prométhée
Prométhée était comblé car il ne manquait de rien
Protégé de Dieu, et respecté par les siens, mais
Une nuit dans ses rêves, Eblis le visita
Et lui demanda: "Dieux est-il plus fort que toi?"
Lui offrit un coffre renfermant tous les malheurs
Et lui insufla la haine et l'envie dans le cur
Le lendemain fût le premier jour triste sur la terre
Prométhée assassina son propre frère
Lui ravit ses biens, enleva son épouse
Réduit en esclavage les tribus au nombre de douze
Il leva une armée forte et robuste
Pour gouverner d'une manière cruelle et injuste
Se croyant immortel il fit tuer
Tous ses fils qui un jour auraient pu se soulever
Il fit bâtir une tour, élevée jusqu'au cieux
Armé de son arc il partit faire la guerre à Dieu
Beaucoup d'hommes aujourd'hui sont les descendants
De Prométhée, et de sa vision ont hérité
Ils nomment ça un "détail" et sans scrupules ils taillent
A leur peuple une véritable peau de bétail
Un exemple de plus, que l'histoire lorgne
D'exploitation de l'aveugle par le borgne
Et si la vie terrestre est un verre d'eau de Javel
Pourquoi tirer des flèches dans le ciel de Babel?
Tous ces drames, ces actes infames pour le trésor de Rackham
Ils ont fait pleuvoir du feu sur la patrie d'Abraham
Autant en emporte le vent du désert
C'est Cerbèreaux enfers que Promethée dessert

Prometheus

In the beginning, there was the earth, the sea, and the sky,
Verdant forests and rivers of honey, my love.
Golden fruits grew on the trees,
