Imagination

It's interesting that some people find science so easy
And others find it kind of dull and difficult
Especially kids
You know some of them you know are just eat it up
And I don't know why it is

And I never could carry a tune
I lose a great deal of pleasure out of that
And I think people lose a lot of pleasure
Who find science dull
In the case of science
I think that one of thе things that make it very difficult

Nothing is really as it seems
We're used to get hot and cold, and all that hot and cold is
Is the speeds that the atoms are jiggling
If they jiggle more it corresponds
To hotter and colder is jiggling less
So, if you have a cup of coffee
Or something sitting on a table
And the atoms are jiggling a great deal in the cup
And they bounce against the cup, then the cup then gets shaky

Hot thing spreads its heat into other things by mere contact
Because the atoms that are jiggling a lot in the hot thing
Shake the ones that are jiggling only a little bit
In the cold thing, so that the heat we say goes into the cold thing
It spreads
But what's spreading is just jiggling, and irregular motions
Which is easy... to kind of understand

And if you're used to balls bouncing
You know they slow up and stop after a while
But we have to imagine with the atoms a perfect elasticity
They never lose any energy
Every time they bounce, they keep on bouncing
They're perpetually moving
And that the things that are happening when
We say something loses energy
If a ball comes down and bounces
It shakes irregularly some of the atoms in the floor
And then when it comes up again
It leaves some of those atoms moving, jiggling
So, as it bounces, it's passing its extra energies
It's extra motions to little patches on the floor
Each time it bounces, and loses a little each time
Until it settles down, we say as the falling motion stops
But what's left is the floor is shaking more than it was before
And the atoms in the ball
Are shaking more than they were before
That the organized motion of all these atoms is moving
The same way falling down and the quiet floor
Is now transformed into a ball sitting on the ground
But all that motion is still there in a form
In the form of the jiggling of the floor
Which is a little bit warmer
But anybody who's hammered a great deal on something
Knows that it's true, that if you pound something
You can feel the temperature difference, it heats up
It heats up something because you're jiggling

I find myself trying to imagine all kinds of things all the time
And I get a kick out of it just like a runner

Es ist interessant, dass manche Leute Wissenschaft so einfach finden
und andere sie irgendwie langweilig und schwierig.
Besonders Kinder.
Weißt Du, manche von ihnen, Du weißt schon, verschlingen sie einfach.
Und ich weiß nicht, warum das so ist.
Es ist vielleicht dasselbe wie
zum Beispiel, viele Leute lieben Musik.
Und ich konnte nie eine Melodie halten.
Ich verliere dadurch viel Freude.
Und ich denke, Leute verlieren viel Freude,
die Wissenschaft langweilig finden.
Im Falle der Wissenschaft
denke ich, dass eines der Dinge, die es sehr schwierig machen, ist,
dass es eine Menge Vorstellungskraft braucht.

Nichts ist wirklich so, wie es scheint.
Wir sind an heiß und kalt gewöhnt, und alles, was heiß und kalt ist,

heißer, und kälter bedeutet weniger wackeln.

und sie gegen die Tasse stoßen, dann wird die Tasse wackelig,

erhitzt die Tasse und alles andere.
Heiße Dinge verbreiten ihre Wärme durch bloßen Kontakt auf andere Dinge,
weil die Atome, die in dem heißen Ding stark wackeln,
diejenigen erschüttern, die in dem kalten Ding nur ein wenig wackeln, so dass die Wärme, wie wir sagen, in das kalte Ding übergeht.

Und wenn Du daran gewöhnt bist, dass Bälle hüpfen,
weißt Du, dass sie langsamer werden und nach einer Weile anhalten.
Aber wir müssen uns bei den Atomen eine perfekte Elastizität vorstellen.
Sie verlieren nie Energie.

Jedes Mal, wenn er hüpft, verliert er ein wenig,
bis er sich beruhigt, wie wir sagen, wenn die Fallbewegung aufhört.
Aber was übrig bleibt, ist, dass der Boden stärker wackelt als zuvor,
und die Atome im Ball
wackeln mehr als zuvor.
Dass die organisierte Bewegung all dieser Atome sich bewegt,
auf die gleiche Weise nach unten fällt und der ruhige Boden
ist jetzt in einen Ball verwandelt, der auf dem Boden sitzt.
Aber all diese Bewegung ist immer noch da, in einer Form,
in Form des Wackelns des Bodens,
der ein wenig wärmer ist.
Aber jeder, der schon einmal viel auf etwas gehämmert hat,
weiß, dass es wahr ist, dass, wenn man auf etwas hämmert,
man den Temperaturunterschied spüren kann, es erwärmt sich.
Es erwärmt etwas, weil Du wackelst.

Dieses Bild von Atomen ist wunderschön, meine Schöne, und Du kannst
alle möglichen Dinge auf diese Weise betrachten.
Ich ertappe mich dabei, wie ich mir ständig alle möglichen Dinge vorzustellen versuche.
Und es macht mir Spaß, genau wie ein Läufer
Spaß am Schwitzen hat.
Ich habe Spaß daran, über diese Dinge nachzudenken.
Ich kann nicht aufhören, ich meine, ich könnte ewig reden.
