Вдруг Хаджи Керантух, продолжавший ехать впереди, резко остановился
Соскочил с коня и стал пристально глядеть в небо
Мы тоже спешились и тоже подняли головы к небу
И увидели, как по небу, затемнив целую его полосу, летит на запад густая чёрная стая воронов
Нам всем стало не по себе, но мы молчали и ждали, что скажет Хаджи Керантух

"Объясни, что это может значить?"
Спросил Хаджи Керантух, показывая пальцем на уже удалявшихся птиц
"Это к несчастью" — сказал Сахат-Кири
И так же, как Хаджи Керантух, продолжал смотреть в небо вслед птицам, и добавил
"Не знаю, стоит ли тебе продолжать свой путь
Вороны затмили нам свет сегодня, а Геуры, с которыми ты должен встретиться, не дадут нам жить завтра
Аллах уже благословил нас покинуть эту землю и переселиться в другую
И чем скорее мы исполним волю Аллаха, тем будет лучше для нас"

Хаджи Керантух перестал смотреть в небо, и, опустив голову, стоял и думал
И полторы тысячи спешившихся воинов тоже молча стояли, ожидая решения
Было тихо, только похрапывали кони
Он быстро вскочил на коня, и я даже не успел поддержать ему стремя, и мы поехали дальше

Переехав реку Хосту, Хаджи Керантух приказал разделить войско на три части
Одну часть послал к морю, к устью реки Мзымты, чтобы наблюдать за морем

По которым можно выйти к нам в тыл
Остальные 500 всадников он взял с собой
И стал спускаться с ними к месту паромной переправы через Мзымту

Suddenly, Haji Kerantukh, who was riding ahead, stopped abruptly.
He jumped off his horse and stared intently at the sky.
We also dismounted and looked up at the sky.
And we saw a dense, black flock of ravens flying westward across the sky, darkening a whole swathe of it.
We all felt uneasy, but we remained silent and waited for Haji Kerantukh to speak.

"Explain to me, my love, what this could mean?"
Haji Kerantukh asked, pointing his finger at the birds that were already flying away.
"It's a bad omen," said Sahat-Kiri.
And, just like Haji Kerantukh, he continued to look at the sky after the birds, and added,
"I don't know if you should continue on your path.
The ravens have eclipsed our light today, and the Giaours, whom you must meet, will not let us live tomorrow.
Allah has already blessed us to leave this land and move to another.
And the sooner we fulfill Allah's will, the better it will be for us."

Haji Kerantukh stopped looking at the sky and, lowering his head, stood and thought.
And fifteen hundred dismounted warriors also stood silently, awaiting his decision.
It was quiet; only the horses snorted.
He quickly jumped on his horse, and I didn't even have time to hold his stirrup, and we rode on.

Having crossed the Khostu River, Haji Kerantukh ordered the army to be divided into three parts.
He sent one part to the sea, to the mouth of the Mzymta River, to observe the sea.
