Population estimates to date for over a decade
Of immigration and refugee life in this country
The census was conducted by phone, so we can't hear everyone's
Story, but together with other data from the census, these stories
Help us better understand who is living where in America today
In addition to telling our story as a nation, these
Numbers also have important implications for policy
For example, they could lead to changes in how government
Spends tax dollars or how much new infrastructure to build
So let's take a closer look at some of those stories
First up are the number of people born each year in the United States
As of December 9th, 2022, there were 7,138,000 births in
The US that year, down slightly from the previous year
This rate of birth decrease has been happening since
2015 When it peaked at almost 8% per annum annually
But even though the birth rate has decreased, the total number
Of live births continues to increase every single year
Since 2000, the percentage of Americans aged 15 to under
24 Years old went from 18.6% in 2000 to 23% in 2022
This means there are now 23% more people aged 15 and
Under in the US population than there were in 2000
The birth rate has been declining for decades but this
Decrease is especially striking because it represents
The first time since 2015 that there has been more births
Than deaths in the US population over a 10 year period
The birth rate is also important because it tells us how many
People are able to produce children each year compared with
Women who aren't able to conceive or choose not to have children

The census also asked respondents if they had ever
Been married at some point during their life
Of those who answered yes to this question, almost half reported
Having never been married while just under one third said
They were still living with someone when they took the survey
Nearly two thirds of those who reported never having been
Married said they had never lived with someone at all
While 31% reported living with a partner and almost half
Of those who were still living with someone also indicated
They would like to move out on their own in the future
The census also asked respondents if they had ever
Been married at some point during their life
Of those who answered yes to this question, almost half reported
Having never been married while just under one third said
They were still living with someone when they took the survey
Nearly two thirds of those who responded yes to this question
Indicated that had not lived with anyone at all in the
Past year or less than 12 months before taking the census
Almost half of respondents who indicated being single for
Longer than five years stated they would like to move out
On their own in the future and nearly twice as many people
Reporting wanting to live alone said so after spending only
Three or fewer years together with their current partner
The census also asked about whether or not people have children
Of those responding, more than six times reported no children
Slightly over four times reported one child or younger, roughly
Seven times reported two or more children aged 18 and older
And approximately nine times reported three or more children
While we don't yet know what life is going to be like post-pandemic
There are some things that will continue to remain constant in our
Society: work, school, government, politics, religion, etcetera
These things won't change even if you can'

All of this information helps us better understand our nation
Today by helping us answer questions like "How has immigration
Changed over time?" By comparing the number of immigrants coming
