شنیدﻡ ﻛﻪ ﭼﻮﻥ ﻗﻮی زیبا بمیرﺩ
ﻓﺮیبندﻩ ﺯﺍﺩ ﻭ ﻓﺮیبا بمیرد
ﺷﺐ ﻣﺮﮒ ﺗﻨﻬﺎ ﻧﺸیند ﺑﻪ ﻣﻮجی
ﺭﻭﺩ ﮔﻮﺷﻪ ای ﺩﻭﺭ ﻭ ﺗﻨﻬﺎ بمیرﺩ
ﺩﺭ ﺁﻥ ﮔﻮﺷﻪ ﭼﻨﺪﺍﻥ ﻏﺰﻝ ﺧﻮﺍﻧﺪ ﺁﻥ ﺷﺐ
ﻛﻪ ﺧﻮﺩ ﺩﺭ میان ﻏﺰﻟﻬﺎ بمیرﺩ
ﮔﺮﻭهی ﺑﺮ ﺁﻧﻨﺪ ﻛﺎین ﻣﺮﻍ شیدﺍ
ﻛﺠﺎ ﻋﺎشقی ﻛﺮﺩ ، ﺁﻧﺠﺎ بمیرد
ﺷﺐ ﻣﺮﮒ ﺍﺯ بیم ﺁﻧﺠﺎ ﺷﺘﺎﺑﺪ
ﻛﻪ ﺍﺯ ﻣﺮﮒ ﻏﺎﻓﻞ ﺷﻮﺩ ﺗﺎ بمیرﺩ
ﻣﻦ ﺍین ﻧﻜﺘﻪ ﮔیرﻡ ﻛﻪ ﺑﺎﻭﺭ ﻧﻜﺮﺩﻡ
ندیدﻡ ﻛﻪ ﻗﻮیی ﺑﻪ ﺻﺤﺮﺍ بمیرﺩ
ﭼﻮ ﺭﻭﺯی ﺯ ﺁﻏﻮﺵ ﺩﺭیا ﺑﺮﺁﻣد
ﺷبی ﻫﻢ ﺩﺭ ﺁﻏﻮﺵ ﺩﺭیا ﺑﻤیرﺩ
ﺗﻮ ﺩﺭیای ﻣﻦ ﺑﻮﺩی ، ﺁﻏﻮﺵ باز ﻛﻦ
ﻛﻪ میﺧﻮﺍﻫﺪ ﺍین ﻗﻮی ﺯیبا ﺑمیرﺩ

The Death of a Swan

I heard that when a beautiful swan dies.
Alluring in life, and enticing in death.
On the night of its demise, it sits alone on a wave.
A distant and solitary corner of the river. There it dies.
In that corner, it sang so many ghazals that night.
That it itself died within those ghazals.
There are some who believe that this enraptured death.
Where did he fall in love? There he shall die.
On the night of its death, it hurries out of fear.
That he may die oblivious to death.
I hold this view: I do not believe it.
I have never seen a swan die in a desert.
As when one day it rises from the sea's embrace.
One night it shall die in the sea's embrace.
You were my sea, open your arms wide,
For this beautiful swan wishes to die.
