Me v' là, c'est moi: Fredo l' porteur.
C' que j'en vois défiler, des gens,
Du matin au soir dans la gare,
Où s' qu'on dit qu'ils sont si bizarre:
Des décidés, des hésitants,
Des pressés, des qui prennent leur temps
Tandis qu' moi, j' prends leurs valises.
Et dans tous ceux-là qui s'en vont,
On n'en voit jamais un qui dise:
" Hé l' porteur, peut-être qu'il trouv'rait ça bon
De monter avec nous dans l' wagon. "
Alors, j' reste Fredo l' porteur.
L'aut' jour, un taxi s'arrete.
Je m' précipite, c'était mon tour.
Bon. J'ouvre la portière, je rentre la tête
Pour bien voir si y' avait du lourd
Et puis, v' là qu' j'aperçois une fille,
Une fille qu'avait tellement d' beauté
Que j'en étais paralysé.
Tout en tremblotant sur mes quilles,
Elle me dit avec un sourire:
" Tenez porteur, prenez tout ça. "
Et moi, comme un mannequin en cire,
J' la r'gardais et puis j'bougeais pas.
J'avais envie d' lui dire:
" Madame, depuis qu'il m'est permis d' rêver,
Depuis que je connais le verbe aimer,
Dans le corps, dans le cœur et puis dans l'âme,
C'est toujours à vous qu' j'ai pensé.
Sûrement que vous étiez l'inconnue,
Celle qu'on arrange à sa façon,
Qui n' refuse rien, qui s'met toute nue

J' lui ai dis " non " en s'couant la tête.
" Bon, alors, " qu'elle a dit, " ça va.
N'attendez pas, prenez tout ça. "
J'ai empoigné les bagages,
Les sacs, les cartons à chapeaux.
J' me suis tout filé sur le dos
Et suis parti dans son sillage,
Vers le wagon capitonné,
Où s' que j' l'ai doucement installée
Pour qu'elle soit bien pendant l' voyage.
Quand elle m'a tendu du pognon,
Sûr'ment qu'elle n'a pas du comprendre
Pourquoi qu' subitement j'ai dit " non "
Et qu' je m' suis dépêché de descendre.
De là, j' suis parti au bistrot,
J'ai bu un coup, deux coups, trois coups,
J'ai bu jusqu'à temps que j' sois saoul.
Puis j'ai expliqué aux poteaux
Les beaux yeux et les ch'veux de ma blonde.
Quand j'ai eu fini d' raconter,
Si vous aviez vu à la ronde
Comment ils ont tous rigolé.
Moi, j'ai rigolé avec eux, hein.
Entre hommes, y fallait ça, c'était mieux.
Mais, c' que ça m' faisait mal de rire,
Surtout que j' pouvais pas leur dire
Que d'un coups, je m' sentais tout vieux
Parc'que moi, Fredo l' porteur,
Je v' nais de faire la plus grande bêtise
En ayant porté la valise
Qui pour toujours emm'nait mon cœur.

Fredo the Porter

Here I am, it's me: Fredo the porter.
I see so many people passing by,
From morning till night in the station,

The other day, a taxi stopped.
