Le carnaval battait son plein,
Au rythme fou des tambourins,
Sous une pluie de confettis, de serpentins.
Lorsque soudain un cri d'effroi,
Jeta partout le désarroi,
C'était la voie de la divine Conchita:
"Ouaaah! Mon dieu! Maman! la Bébête!"

Attention la Bébête, la vilaine Bébête,
Attrapez la Bébête, prenez bien garde à la Bébête

Un vieux poivrot sur un tonneau,
Qui cuvait quelques coups de trop,
En est tombé sur le pavé, le cul dans l'eau.
Alors il s'est mis à hurler,
De sa voix plutôt avinée,
Sans vraiment bien réaliser ce qui s'passait:
"Qu'est-ce ça? Qu'est-ce ça? euh ça... Hnnn"

Monsieur le Curé qui passait,
En fût tellement boul'versé,
Qu'il récita quatre pater et 3 avé.
Une rosière de soixante ans,
Qui n'avait plus toutes ses dents,
Très excitée, s'est approchée en s'écriant:
"Doux Jésus! L'affreuse chose! Je n'ai jamais vu ça!"

On téléphona aussitôt,
Aux pompiers qui furent là bientôt,
Avec la pompe, la grande échelle et les tuyaux.
Le Chef ordonna sur le champ,
à tous ses hommes vivement,
De s'attaquer à ce fléau tambour battant:

Quand les gendarmes sont arrivés,
Emmenés par leur Brigadier,
On a pensé que les choses allaient s'arranger.

The carnival was in full swing,
To the crazy rhythm of the drums,
Under a rain of confetti, of serpentines.
When suddenly a cry of fright,
Threw everywhere the disarray,
It was the voice of the divine Conchita:
"Ouaaah! My god! Mom! The Critter!"

Beware the Critter, the nasty Critter,
Catch the Critter, be careful with the Critter

An old drunkard on a barrel,
Who was nursing a few too many shots,
Fell on the pavement, his ass in the water.
Then he started to scream,
In his rather boozy voice,
Without really realizing what was happening:
"What is that? What is that? uh that... Hnnn"

Mr. Vicar who was passing,
Was so upset by it,
That he recited four paters and 3 aves.
A sixty-year-old May Queen,
Who didn't have all her teeth anymore,
Very excited, came closer and exclaimed:
"Sweet Jesus! The horrible thing! I've never seen anything like it!"

They called the firemen right away,
Who were there soon,
With the pump, the big ladder and the hoses.
The Chief ordered immediately,
to all his men lively,
To attack this scourge with a bang:
"Ga-ga-ga-ga-ga-Attention! A-na-na, a-na-na, a-na-na, forward!"

When the gendarmes arrived,
Led by their Brigadier,
We thought that things were going to get better.
In the mess that reigned,
Everyone thought they had seen it,
Yes but no one was able to catch it:
