Quel poème est plus émouvant
Qu'un arbre dressé dans le vent?
Comme un cri vivant de la Terre
Il élève au Ciel sa prière
Tendant vers Dieu ses bras puissants
De chants d'oiseaux tout frémissants

Et je songe, en le regardant
Braver de l'hiver les autans,
Que le Seigneur, seul, est capable
De créer cette oœuvre admirable
Tandis que nous, pauvres humains,
Chantons l'amour qui meurt demain

Qu'un arbre dressé dans le vent
Sinon les cœurs gonflés de rêve
Les cœurs que leur passion soulève
Émerveillés de leur destin
Vers l'idéal jamais atteint

Ainsi, mon cœur tendu vers toi
Frémit d'un fol et tendre émoi
Auprès du chêne centenaire
Que ce bonheur semble éphémère!

Vivre sans toi, sans ton amour?

Trembling with the songs of birds

And I think, as I look at it,
Braving the howling winter,
That the Lord alone is capable
Of creating this admirable work
While we, poor humans,
Sing of love that dies tomorrow
