Je komt binnen en je stikt er in de rook en alles ruikt er muf.

En de baas loopt rond met een trots gezicht en een ouderwetse sik.
En iedereen is even gek en een van hen ben ik!

En je zit er dicht opeen gepakt, je zweet je er kapot.
Maar je vindt 't er gezellig ook al is alles even rot.
En met zonnebril en lange haren zijn ze artistiek
En niet door schilderkunst of dichtwerk of muziek.
En als men vraagt hoe oud ze zijn, dan geven ze geen kik
Nee, dan knijpen ze 'm allemaal en een van hen ben ik!

En men praat er over de maatschappij en de zin van het leven
En over 't nut van kerk en huisgezin, waar ze zelf toch geen barst om
Geven
En 'n hele kleffe club van halve zachten spreekt ze tegen,
Omdat men lalt over wat men zou willen en niet heeft gekregen.
En daarom zijn ze zo opstandig en staan meteen in de fik
Als iemand hen dan tegenspreekt en een van hen ben ik!

Maar d'r zitten erbij met een goed verstand en akelig heldere kop.
En alleen door hun kleding en overtuiging neemt men hen niet op,
In de maatschappij van rijtjes-lopers, hoge-boordenslijmers,
Waar alleen plaats is voor meewaaiers en eigenheimers.
En de strooplikkers, die zijn tegen de vijftig vet, ongemakkelijk dik.
Maar zij blijven mager van het denken en een van hen ben ik!

But they remain thin from thinking, my dear, and one of them is me!
