Well, Of Course!' Young Jethro Thought...

Well, of course young Jethro thought that it was just a wonderful story
He just about to tell one of his own
He looked up and they were all gone
All he can see in the Moonlight was big tall tree that looked like Paul Bunyan
Smaller tree just look like Johnny Appleseed
And real strong looking tree with icicles on it's branches that looked like Dan'l Boone

Next thing it was Christmas morning and Young Jethro woke up
To find himself lying on his bed in the loft to the cabin
He couldn't remember how he got there
He felt his arms to see he still had on the buck skin jacket
Mh-mh, instead he felt the flannel nightgown that he always wore
Tried not to feel disappointed and then he climbed down the batch pole ladder
And there by the fire place was a little Christmas tree
And some shiny doo daa sparkling on it
And underneath the tree, there were three presents
All wrapped up in tinsley paper

"Merry Christmas son", his ma' and pa' said to him
"Merry Christmas to you", he said
"Ha-ha, you sure were sleeping sound when we finally
Got through that snow last night," his pa' said

Well, Jethro kept staring at those three presents under the tree
"Hey, how'd you like to open your presents?", his father said
The first was a long green package, he opened it very slowly
He coud feel a handle and he tore the paper away
It was an axe! It had hay grey handle and the blade was gleaming

The second was a small package in blue, felt like a ball
But when he tore the paper away he found an apple
And this was rosey red
The third package was wrapped in red
He tore the package open, and there it was, a buck skin jacket
Buck skin jacket with fringes on it too

Oh, young Jethro could hardly speak
He went to the window and he sneaked to look outside
The field was still there, and the trees still in need of chopping
"I was gonna give you a surprise", he said
"I was gonna clear away the whole field, but your axe was too heavy"
His father smiled at him and he said
"Ha-ha-ha, maybe we can do it together now, shouldn't take us too long with that axe you got"
Well, young Jethro aloud that he wouldn't
"Then we'll have a fair sized garden patch," he said
"And some space for an apple tree!"
"Some day soon!" his father said

Bien sûr, le jeune Jethro pensait que c’était une histoire formidable.
Il était sur le point d’en raconter une lui-même.
Il leva les yeux et ils étaient tous partis.
Tout ce qu’il pouvait voir au clair de lune était un grand arbre qui ressemblait à Paul Bunyan.
Un arbre plus petit ressemblait à Johnny Appleseed.
Et un arbre vraiment robuste avec des glaçons sur ses branches qui ressemblait à Dan’l Boone.

La prochaine chose, c’était le matin de Noël, et le jeune Jethro s’est réveillé.
Pour se retrouver couché sur son lit dans le grenier de la cabane.
Il ne se souvenait pas comment il était arrivé là.
Il a senti ses bras pour voir s’il portait toujours sa veste en peau de daim.
Mh-mh, au lieu de cela, il a senti la chemise de nuit en flanelle qu’il portait toujours.
Il a essayé de ne pas se sentir déçu, puis il a descendu l’échelle de la cabane.
Et là, près de la cheminée, il y avait un petit sapin de Noël.
Et quelques brillants doo daa qui scintillaient dessus.
Et sous l’arbre, il y avait trois cadeaux.
Tous emballés dans du papier tinsley.

"Joyeux Noël, mon fils", lui ont dit sa mère et son père.
"Joyeux Noël à vous", dit-il.
"Ha-ha, tu dormais vraiment profondément quand on a enfin
Traversé la neige hier soir", a dit son père.

Eh bien, Jethro n’a pas arrêté de regarder ces trois cadeaux sous l’arbre.
"Hé, tu voudrais ouvrir tes cadeaux ?", a dit son père.
Le premier était un long paquet vert, il l’a ouvert très lentement.
Il pouvait sentir une poignée et il a déchiré le papier.
C’était une hache ! Elle avait une poignée gris foin et la lame brillait.

Le deuxième était un petit paquet bleu, qui ressemblait à une balle.
Mais quand il a déchiré le papier, il a trouvé une pomme.
Et celle-ci était rouge rosé.
Le troisième paquet était enveloppé de rouge.
Il a déchiré le paquet, et voilà, une veste en peau de daim.
Une veste en peau de daim avec des franges dessus aussi.

Oh, le jeune Jethro avait du mal à parler.
Il est allé à la fenêtre et il a regardé dehors en douce.
Le champ était toujours là, et les arbres avaient toujours besoin d’être abattus.
"J’allais te faire une surprise", dit-il.
"J’allais nettoyer tout le champ, mais ta hache était trop lourde."
Son père lui sourit et dit :
"Ha-ha-ha, peut-être qu’on peut le faire ensemble maintenant, ça ne devrait pas nous prendre trop de temps avec cette hache que tu as."
Eh bien, le jeune Jethro a dit à haute voix qu’il ne le ferait pas.
"Alors, on aura un bon jardin", dit-il.
"Et de la place pour un pommier !"
"Un jour prochain !", a dit son père.
