Ich werd ja oft gefragt: "Herr Wartke,
Wieso sind Sie nicht viel öfter mal im Fernsehen?
Einen Künstler wie Sie würden wir im Fernsehen wirklich gern sehen!"
Ich antworte dann stets: "Da sitzen wir im selben Boote,
Doch Musik, behauptet das Fernsehen, sei schlecht für die Quote.
Bei Liedern, insbesondere bei solchen mit Niveau,
Zappen die Leute weg oder gehn auf's Klo."
Ein Lied, das länger dauert als anderthalb Minuten,
Sei dem Fernsehpublikum darum nicht zuzumuten.
Das Problem ist, meine Lieder dauern echt extrem,
Und zwar nie anderthalb Minuten, sondern meistens eher zehn.
Doch ich seh es als Herausforderung. Schließlich ist das 'n
Guter Anlass, mich mal ausnahmsweise kurz zu fassen.
Jetzt bin ich im Fernsehen! Endlich ist es mal soweit!
Das bedeutet, Leute, wir haben nicht viel Zeit!
Ich hätt' zwar viel zu erzählen, so manche Anekdote,
Geht aber nicht. Ist ja nicht gut für die Quote.
Drum: "Hochverehrtes Fernsehpublikum,
Ich bitte Sie von Herzen: Schalten Sie nicht um!
Denn ich singe jetzt ohne viel Brimborium
Ein Lied in anderthalb Minuten ... Ach leider schon rum."

I'm often asked: "Mr. Wartke,
Why aren't you on TV more often?
We'd really love to see an artist like you on TV!"
I always answer: "We're in the same boat,
But TV claims that music is bad for the ratings.
With songs, especially those with a certain level of sophistication,
People either switch channels or go to the bathroom."
A song that lasts longer than a minute and a half,
Is therefore not something the TV audience can be expected to endure.
The problem is, my songs are really extremely long,
And they never last a minute and a half, but usually more like ten.
But I see it as a challenge. After all, it's a
Good reason to keep things short for once.
Now I'm on TV! It's finally happened!
That means, folks, we don't have much time!
I would have a lot to tell you, many anecdotes,
But it's not possible. It's not good for the ratings.
Therefore: "Dear TV audience,
I beg you from the bottom of my heart: Don't switch channels!
Because I'm now singing without much fuss
A song in a minute and a half ... Oh, unfortunately, it's over already."
Too bad ...
