Di mezz'estate,
Fa molto caldo,
Nemmeno una foglia
Si muove
In questo silenzio
Irreale.
All'improvviso,
Una nube di polvere
Si alza,
Gli animali del cortile
Corrono di qua
E di là, spaventati.
I contadini escono
Per raccogliere
Il fieno e mettere
Al coperto I loro attrezzi.
All'orizzonte,
Nubi minacciose
Avanzano velocemente,
Da lampi e tuoni percorse.
Ad un tratto,
Un paesaggio d'un film
Di terrore,
Sembra la campagna.
Cadono gocce di pioggia,
Dapprima lentamente...
Poi sempre più velocemente,
Fino a formare
Fra te e il mondo circostante
Una barriera d'acqua.
Com'è cominciato così,
Di piovere, smette.
Ormai al tramonto il sole
Dietro le colline
Sta calando;
Escono dai loro nidi,
In cerca di cibo, le rondini.
Dalle case esce
Allegra e felice la gente,
Sotto il manto di stelle
Che si sta formando in cielo,
Dei falò accende;
Con la musica dei grilli
Attorno ad essi
Mangia e balla.

Summer Storms

It's an afternoon
Of midsummer,
It's very hot,
Not even a leaf
Moves
In this silence
Unrealistic.
Suddenly,
A cloud of dust
Rises,
The animals of the yard
Run here
And there, frightened.
The farmers come out
To collect
The hay and put
Their tools under cover.
On the horizon,
Threatening clouds
Advance rapidly,
Run through by lightning and thunder.
Suddenly,
A landscape from a movie
Of terror,
The countryside seems.
Raindrops fall,
Slowly at first...
Then faster and faster,
Until forming
Between you and the world around
A barrier of water.
As it began so
It stops raining.
Now at sunset the sun
Behind the hills
Is setting;
They come out of their nests,
In search of food, the swallows.
From the houses comes
Cheerful and happy people,
Under the mantle of stars
That is forming in the sky,
They light bonfires;
With the music of crickets
Around them
Eat and dance.
