Река раскинулась. Течет, грустит лениво
И моет берега.
Над скудной глиной желтого обрыва
В степи грустят стога.
Пусть ночь. Домчимся. Озарим кострами
Степную даль.
В степном дыму блеснет святое знамя
И ханской сабли сталь...
И вечный бой - покой нам только снится!
Сквозь кровь и пыль
Летит степная кобылица
И мнет ковыль.
Мелькают вёрсты, кручи -
Останови!
Идут испуганные тучи -
Закат в крови!
Из сердца кровь струится!
Плачь, сердце, плачь...
Покоя нет! Степная кобылица
Несётся вскачь!
С полуночи тучей возносилась
Княжеская рать,
И вдали, вдали о стремя билась,
Голосила мать!!!
На пути — горючий белый камень.
За рекой — поганая орда!
Светлый стяг над нашими полками
Не взыграет больше никогда!
И, к земле склонившись головою,
Говорит мне друг: Остри свой меч,
Чтоб не даром биться с татарвою,
За святое дело мертвым лечь!

Steppe Mare

The river stretches out. It flows, sadly, slowly,
And washes the banks.
Above the meager clay of the yellow cliff,
In the steppe, the haystacks are sad.
Let it be night. We'll catch up. We'll light campfires,
The steppe distance.
In the steppe smoke, the holy banner will shine
And the steel of the khan's saber...
And the eternal battle - peace is only a dream!
Through blood and dust
The steppe mare flies
And tramples the feather grass.
Miles and precipices flash by -
Stop!
Frightened clouds are approaching -
The sunset in blood!
Blood flows from the heart!
Weep, heart, weep...
There is no peace! The steppe mare
Races at a gallop!
From midnight, like a cloud, it rose
The prince's army,
And in the distance, in the distance, it beat against the stirrup,
Mother wailed!!!
On the way - a burning white stone.
Beyond the river - a filthy horde!
The light banner over our regiments
Will never play again!
And, bowing his head to the ground,
My friend says to me: Sharpen your sword,
