Music is far deeper and more sublime than I had imagined
The greed of adults is far more appalling than you can imagine
Expectations and hurdles escalate, and it’s truly tough to meet them
I look back now with shame at those songs, but I sang them with confidence in those days

I was 17, a high school sophomore, a boy who couldn’t make up his mind
Everything was such a pain, and I didn’t bother to be filial in the slightest
I’d always stew on whatever wasn’t going right, alone
I got so sick of myself that I heard this reggae music
My worries seemed so petty then, and I was made to realize how small I was
I learned that there were countless others out there who suffered and sorrowed more than I did
I wanted to change myself, so instead of talking, I acted
I imagined myself as that superstar and threw myself into it, skipping school
From that day on, my mindset changed. I devoured every mic I could get my hands on
It wasn’t an easy road, but I became engrossed in it and went wild
I flopped hard, but it didn’t matter to me
I even got dragged offstage once, but it was enjoyable
And then, it just so happened that “Midori” sold, and everyone around me rejoiced
It looked like smooth sailing, but if I’d stopped there, it would have been over
Shallow thinking is foolish. The real battle starts there
I didn’t want to become a one-hit wonder or a mere crowd-pleaser, man

And so I thought again. I can do more

I stopped compromising, quit my part-time job, and caused my parents endless worry
There were times when I nearly gave up, but for some reason, I managed to keep going
I was cursed at, mocked, and cheated, but I didn’t lose
I visited social welfare facilities, and since my will was weak, I also got a tattoo
I traveled all over the country, performing live even though I was still a greenhorn
And the people I met through those experiences helped me grow as a person
I met so many comrades and friends, and we shared a lot of meals and drinks
Sometimes there was drama, sometimes we killed the sound
And even though we were just kids, that immaturity is still with me today
I’m just going to keep doing all I can each day to repay my debts of gratitude
I even went all the way to Jamaica to put some distance between myself and my rivals
Sometimes my friends leave. Maybe it’s my fault. There’s some truth to that
But there’s no turning back down this path. It’s what makes me who I am
