One quiet summer afternoon
We walked along the beach together at dusk
The turquoise sea and sky met at the horizon
Where the water and sky embraced.

Sand crabs scuttled sideways across the beach
Seagulls swooped and circled overhead
In the early morning, footprints were etched in the sand
And the blazing sun scorched our feet.

Was the sand angry or resentful,
