Se os animais falassem, ouviriamos agora o depoimento de um boi
Que matou um toureiro para salvar a sua própria vida.

Eu fui laçado e arrastado na capoeira
E foi de qualquer maneira, me jogaram na prisão
Ajoelhado implorava nessa hora
Amarrado na gaiola como se fosse um ladrão.

Mas eu confesso aos senhores jurados
Tentei pular o alambrado e fugir pra o estradão
Mas nesta pelos homens eu fui barrado
Veja meu corpo marcado por pancadas de ferrão.

E lá na arena, neste beco sem saída
Para não perder a vida triste luta enfrentei
Todo aplauso era pro meu inimigo
Temendo grande perigo desesperado chorei

Mais não sabia o toureiro desumano
Que em defesa dos rebanhos muitas feras derrotei
Com minha alma envolvida de tristeza
Em legítima defesa para não morrer, matei.

The Trial of the Ox

If animals could talk, we would now hear the testimony of an ox
Who killed a bullfighter to save his own life.

I was lassoed and dragged into the bullring,
And in any which way, they threw me in jail.
Kneeling, I pleaded at that hour,
Tied in a cage like a thief.

But I confess to the gentlemen of the jury
That I tried to jump the fence and run for the highway
But by these men I was stopped
Look at my body marked by the sharp prods of the cattle prod.

And there in the arena, in this dead end,

All the applause was for my enemy
Afraid of great danger, I wept in despair.

But the inhuman bullfighter did not know
That in defense of the herds I have defeated many beasts.
With my soul filled with sadness
