To ride a young colt,
A craving to pull a tail,
A desire to break a horn.
The illusion of making a throw,
Nostalgia for humming a lasso,
I want to hear old stories
Under the eaves of a ranch
And drink strong coffee
Somewhere to the beat of a cuatro,
Listen to the sound of hinges,
Neighs, whistles, and songs,
While the face of the moon
Is broken by a herd of hooves.
To raise a large rodeo
From the corners of a lowland,
To see a rope pass
Humbling the wild ones,
To feel enormous in my chest
The being of a born plainsman
When closing a corral
Against the howler monkey horizon.
I'm going to fix my gear
To shake off the dust,
I have an old stubborn mare
But the saddle pad is new,
