Tem tanta gente aí com amor pra dar
Tão cheia de paz no coração

Que seja Carioca no balanço
Que veja nos meus olhos seu descanso
Que saiba perdoar tudo que faço
E querendo brigar me dê um abraço

Que fale de chegar e de sorrir
E nunca de chorar e de partir
Que tenha uma vozinha bem macia
Que fale bem baixinho só poesia

Que seja toda feita de carinho
Que viva bem feliz no meu cantinho
Que saiba aproveitar toda a alegria
E faça da tristeza o que eu faria

Oh, how I wish I had a lover
Who would be for me the morning
Of a day that would be my life
And the life that we have is a stop

And who has no love has nothing
Will have to search without resting
There are so many people out there with love to give
So full of peace in their hearts

May she be a Carioca in her swing
May she see in my eyes her rest
May she know how to forgive everything I do
And when she wants to fight, give me a hug

May she talk about arriving and smiling
And never about crying and leaving
May she have a very soft voice
That speaks very softly, only poetry

May she be all made of affection
May she live very happily in my little corner
May she know how to enjoy all the joy
And make of the sadness what I would do

May she be just right and nothing more
