Wie er so schön sang

Was er da so furchtbar krächzt
Ist sinnlos, fad und leer
Gerade fand ich klug und weise
Was er da so spricht

Doch seine tauben Sprüche

Er sauber formulieren kann
Gerade sagt ein Jeder
"Welch große Lichtgestalt!"
Den Kleidern und der Haltung
Nur Hochachtung galt
Doch nur ein dummer Zwerg ist er
Ich bin entsetzt
"Ein Lumpenhaufen!"
Gern man die Hunde auf ihn hetzt
Gerade lachten alle lauthals
Über seinen Witz
Gelähmt bestaunt die Menge ihn
Als wär′ sie sein Besitz
Ein Alptraum! Hat sich alles
Denn gegen mich verschworen?
"Wacht doch endlich auf!"
Oder hab ich auch Dich verloren?
Schafft ihn hier weg -
Aus meinen Augen!

I just liked it
How he sang so beautifully
In that fine voice
There was a very special sound
But now, when I listen carefully
I don't like it at all
That what he crows so terribly
Is senseless, dull and empty
Just now, I found wise and clever
What he said
I was convinced
He leads us into the light
But his silly sayings
Are boring me now
Not even a sentence
He can formulate cleanly
Just now, everyone says
"What a great luminary!"
The clothes and the bearing
Were respected
But he is a stupid dwarf
I am appalled
"A tramp!"
They would like to set the dogs on him
Just now, everyone laughed out loud
About his joke
The crowd stared paralyzed at him
As if he owned it
A nightmare! Has everything
Conspired against me?
"Finally, wake up!"
Or have I lost you too?
Get him away from here -
