O Samaritano

E quem é, ó Senhor, o meu próximo? /
E meu próximo então, quem será? /
Me responde, Senhor do caminho, / alumia este meu caminhar.

1– Pela estrada de Jerusalém /
Alguém ia até Jericó. /
De repente se viu assaltado, /
Espancado e roubado sem dó. /
Quase morto ficou à espera /
De alguém que viesse, quem dera, / socorrê-lo na hora pior. /
O primeiro a passar, imaginem, /
Foi do templo, um fiel sacerdote, /
Nem por isso o coitado se viu /
Socorrido em sua má sorte, /
Pois o padre mal vê o coitado, /
Vira a cara e pelo outro lado /
Segue adiante buscando seu norte. /
O segundo a passar, vejam só, /
Um levita do templo, um fiel. /
Bem que o pobre coitado podia /
Esperar dele um gesto do céu. /
O devoto, porém, religioso, /
Vira o rosto e prossegue impiedoso /
E o coitado que fique ao léu.

2– Mas lá vêm num jumento montado / um estranho, esquisito fulano /
De quem nada era pra se esperar, /
Mas é ele que encara o cicrano /
E assim, todo compadecido /
Socorreu o coitado ferido, /
E ele era um samaritano. /
Óleo e vinho, remédios de então, /
Ele passa nos seus ferimentos /
E depois de tratar-lhe as chagas /
O coloca por sobre o jumento, /
E deixando-o bem hospedado, / providências e todo cuidado, /
Ele toma por seu tratamento. /
No amanhã ele deixa dinheiro /
Com o dono daquela pensão. /
Pode ser que o dinheiro não baste, /
Vale, então, a recomendação. /
Cuide dele que quando eu voltar, /
Do que mais ele for precisar, /
Eu farei toda a compensação.

3– E agora, Jesus nos pergunta: /
No seu modo de ver e pensar /
Foi o próximo a se apresentar? /
Com certeza, quem se aproximou /
E do pobre coitado cuidou. /
Vá você, faça o mesmo a cuidar. /
E agora, você que escutou /
O seu Mestre divino a falar, /
Cuide bem de rever os caminhos /
Pelos quais sempre esteve a trilhar /
E o próximo, então, há de vir, /
Mas que aquele com quem se caminhe /
é quem mais de você precisar.

The Samaritan

And who is, O Lord, my neighbor?
And my neighbor, then, who will it be?
Answer me, Lord of the way, brighten my path.

1- On the road to Jerusalem
Someone was going to Jericho.
Suddenly he was assaulted,
Beaten and robbed without mercy.
He was left almost dead, waiting
For someone to come, I wondered, to help him in his worst hour.
Imagine this, the first to pass by
Was from the temple, a faithful priest,
But the poor man didn't see himself
Helped in his bad luck,
For the priest barely sees the poor man,
Turns his face and on the other side
He goes on seeking his north.
The second to pass by, look,
A Levite from the temple, a faithful one.
Well, the poor man could have
Expected a gesture of heaven from him.
The devotee, however, religious,
Turns his face and continues pitiless
And the poor man is left out in the cold.

2– But there comes a stranger riding on a donkey, a strange guy
From whom nothing was to be expected,
But it is he who faces the guy
And thus, all compassionate,
He helped the poor man
And he was a Samaritan.
Oil and wine, remedies of that time,
He passes on his wounds
And after treating his wounds
He places him on the donkey,
And leaving him well-lodged, with precautions and all care,
He takes care of his treatment.
Tomorrow he leaves money
With the owner of that boarding house.
The money may not be enough,
So the recommendation is worth it.
Take care of him that when I return,
Whatever else he needs,
I will make full compensation.

3- And now, Jesus asks us:
In your way of seeing and thinking
Was it the next one to come forward?
For sure, the one who approached
And the poor man took care of.
Go you, do the same to take care.
And now, you who listened
Your divine Master speaking,
Take good care of reviewing the paths
By which you have always been walking
And the next one, then, will come,
But that the one with whom you walk
Is the one who needs you the most.
