Tinha um petiço tordilho marca da estância do meio
Refugado por coiceiro, desbocado e sem costeio
Porém o mundo é pequeno, cheio de volta e floreio
E o tal petiço veiaco se topou com os meus arreios

Já gineteei vaca mansa, touro guaxo e burro alçado
Sou fronteiriço e me agarro em pêlo basto pelado
Apertei bem meus recal, alcei o corpo delgado
E encontrei o "malabruja" berrando desatinado

Me entreguei de corpo e alma a São Pedro e Nossa Senhora
E o beiçudo agarrou força corcoveando campo a fora
Vos digo que coisa feia, quem nunca viu se apavora
Pra uma escramuça de mango e uma tormenta de espora

Mais parecia um demônio no meio do fogaréu
Indo no rumo do céu se arrastou pateando os ferros
Caiu sentado na cola, quase me quita o chapéu
E às vezes dava impressão que eu gineteva um tonel

Não tenho rumo nem rancho, me "aclimatei" ao lombilho
Que vem chorando e rangindo no lombo deste tordilho
Pois sou pior que carrapato nas garras que me enforquilho
Já guasquei muito ventena calçado aos quatro cornilho

A vida costeia aos poucos a alma de um pobre peão
Sei que o destino é maula mas não afrouxa o garrão
Baldoso tapo de corda, bocudo encho a tirão
Veiaco costeio a ferro e não cobro nenhum tostão

Unbridled and Untamed

There was a little dun, branded from the "estancia del medio"
Rejected for being a kicker, unbridled and untamed
But the world is small, full of turns and flourishes
And that rascally little dun found himself tangled in my reins

I've ridden gentle cows, fierce bulls, and stubborn donkeys
I'm a frontiersman, and I cling to bareback horses
I tightened my reins, lifted my slender frame
And found the "malabruja" bellowing madly

I surrendered my body and soul to Saint Peter and Our Lady
And the beast gathered strength, bucking across the open plain
I tell you, it was hideous, who's never seen it would be terrified
A mango and spur storm, a wild and furious dance

It looked like a demon in the middle of a bonfire
Heading towards the sky, dragging its hooves through the dirt
It fell, sitting on its haunches, almost knocking off my hat
And sometimes it felt like I was riding a barrel

I have no direction or home, I've "acclimated" to the saddle
That creaks and groans beneath me on the back of this dun
Because I'm worse than a tick in the grips that hold me fast
I've lassoed many a filly, shod in all four corners

Life slowly chips away at the soul of a poor cowboy
I know that fate is cruel but it doesn't let go
Barefoot and barebacked, I fill my belly by force
A rascal of a cowboy, I ride for free

"If the wild dun has become gentle and tamed"
Broken like a dog, it galloped through the pasture
Scratched by mango and thorn, it found shelter in the willow tree
Until the roundup and the cowboy's ride!
