Il faisait nuit, il pleuvait fort sur ma route;

J′entendis mon hôte me questionner.

Je perçus tout d′abord comme un cantique;
Une voix de femme comme on en fait plus,
Puis une question d'ordre plus pratique:
"Que voulez-vous à cette heure indue? "

A cette porte, je n′aurais du frapper;
Si je pouvais tout changer,
Je s'rais chez moi, seul sous ma couette, dans mon lit douillet!

Je mis bien dix secondes à lui répondre
Tant cette voix me fit l′effet d'un baiser;
Tant l′instant assommait ma faconde,
Tant ma bouche partait pour balbutier.

Puis retrouvant la maîtrise de mes babines,
Cherchant en moi l'éloquence d'un roi;
Je lui répondit d′une voix câline:
"Je suis perdu, trempé, aidez-moi. "

Sûrement surprise par l′audace d'une telle demande,
Elle ouvrit sa porte et me chanta "suivez-moi";

J′entrai puis lui enquillai le pas.

Je la suivis dans un petit couloir sombre,

Flottait devant mes yeux médusés;
Je sentais mes jambes vaciller.

Une fois assis tout près de la cheminée,

Mon par-dessus avait bien sûr rétrécit;
On eut bien du mal à l'enlever;
Et commencèrent les acrobaties.

Elle tirait si fort
Sur mes manches que tout finit pas lâcher,
Et me voila moitié nu,
Devant la bête, qui trébucha, et tomba dans mes bras!

Mais!
Sous l'émotion, mon coeur, lui aussi, lâcha;
Comme foudroyé par une flèche trop acérée;
Son bouche-à-bouche aggrava mon cas!
Bien mort, je vis mon âme s′envoler!

Depuis ce jour, de nuage adopté,
Il pleut des larmes sur la maison adorée;
Il fait orage quand elle est amoureuse,
Et beau temps quand elle est malheureuse!

Love at First Sight

Since that day, adopted by a cloud,
It rains tears on the adored house;
It storms when she is in love,
And good weather when she is unhappy!
