Με μια πιρόγα φεύγεις και γυρίζεις
τις ώρες που αγριεύει η βροχή
στη γη των Βησιγότθων αρμενίζεις
και σε κερδίζουν κήποι κρεμαστοί
μα τα φτερά σου σιγοπριονίζεις
Σκέπασε αρμύρα το γυμνό κορμί σου
σου 'φερα απ' τους Δελφούς γλυκό νερό
στα δύο είπες πως θα κοπεί η ζωή σου
και πριν προλάβω τρις να σ' αρνηθώ
σκούριασε το κλειδί του παραδείσου
Το καραβάνι τρέχει μες στη σκόνη
και την τρελή σου κυνηγάει σκιά
πώς να ημερέψει ο νους μ' ένα σεντόνι
πώς να δεθεί η Μεσόγειος με σχοινιά
αγάπη που σε λέγαμ' Αντιγόνη
Ποια νυχτωδία το φως σου έχει πάρει
και σε ποιο γαλαξία να σε βρω
εδώ είναι Αττική φαιό νταμάρι
κι εγώ ένα πεδίο βολής φτηνό
που ασκούνται βρίζοντας ξένοι φαντάροι

Egoismos (Egoism)

You leave and return in a pirogue,
during the hours when the rain gets wild.
You sail to the land of the Visigoths,
and hanging gardens win you over.
But you secretly saw off your wings.
Salt has covered your naked body,
I brought you sweet water from Delphi.
You said your life would be cut in two,
and before I could deny you thrice,
the key to paradise rusted shut.
The caravan runs through the dust,
and your crazy shadow chases it.
How can the mind be tamed with a sheet,
how can the Mediterranean be tied with ropes,
my love, whom I used to call Antigone.
What nocturnal darkness has taken your light,
and in which galaxy can I find you?
Here is Attica, a gray quarry,
and I am a cheap shooting range,
where foreign soldiers practice, cursing.
