En las cantinas eras el peor del mundo
Decía una pobre madre a su hijo malviviente
Aunque rodeado te encuentres de placeres
El vino y las mujeres serán para perderte

No son sinceros amigos de cantina
Y amores que se venden con el que va llegando
Mientras que tienes dinero tienes todo
Después que ya no tienes, te van abandonando

El malviviente, borracho y parrandero
Si no tiene dinero no tiene una esperanza
En vez de verlo la gente con aprecio
Lo ven con un desprecio y le tienen desconfianza

Hijo, querido, no quiero te pierdas
Aún te queda tiempo para dejar los vicios
El malviviente malcriado con su madre decía
Decía: "así dejo todo, pero pa'l día del juicio"

Pasaron meses, pasaron muchos años
Y aquella viejecita lloraba a su hijo amado
A veces preso por pleitos de cantina

Fueron en vano, aquellos mil consejos
Que aquella buena madre, le dio toda la vida
El malviviente, borracho y parrandero
Curándose una cruda, murió en una cantina

A Mother's Advice

In the taverns, you were the worst in the world,
A poor mother said to her wicked son;
Though surrounded by pleasures,
Wine and women will be your undoing.

Friends in the tavern are not true,
And lovers who sell themselves to whoever comes along;
While you have money, you have everything;
When you no longer have it, you are abandoned.

The wicked man, drunkard, and reveler,
If he has no money, he has no hope;
Instead of being seen with affection,
He is despised and mistrusted.

My dear son, I don't want you to get lost,
You still have time to give up your vices;
The wicked man, spoiled by his mother, said:
“I'll quit everything, but on the day of judgment.”

Months passed, years passed,
And that old woman wept for her beloved son;
Sometimes imprisoned for bar fights,
Sometimes in the street she found him lying drunk.

In vain were those thousand pieces of advice,
That good mother had given him all her life;
The wicked man, drunkard, and reveler,
Nursing a hangover, died in a tavern.
