Večeras je u gradu tuga, večeras caruje bol
Svi ga zazivaju, al' niko ne zna gdje je Bog
U gradu, njih par manijaka se smije al' većina ih večeras plače
Ispuzale male zmije, pretvorile se u koljače

Mrtva tijela, velika, srednja i ona mala
Moja rijeka je crvena i guta ih Sava, mada ne bi htjela
Guta one koji su nju gutali, što su se smijali i volili dok su se u njoj kupali
Muka je rijeci, vidi se po pjeni što je na obalu izbacuje
Al' ne može da izbaci šta zmija u nju ubaci

U pomoć stižu oblaci, šalju kišu da spasi rijeku
Crvene krvave fleke da lakše oteku
Tužna je i savska sirena jer mrtva su djeca njena
Treba školjku za smirenje, treba neko objašnjenje

Treba joj zraka, od tuge se guši
Najrađe bi na površinu pa nek umre i nek se isuši
Zove svoje podanike, zove savske somove
Daje im naredbu da ljudska tijela spreme u grobove
Da se tijela pokopaju najdublje što se može
I to na ušću kod Dunava, tam gdje je ona duboka uvala

I tako somovi tijela vuku, pozvali su i veliku štuku
Da tjera druge ribe s puta, ko neće se sklonit, štuka ga proguta
A na ušću za to vrijeme, po naredbi sirene
Ribe napraviše grobnicu za nevinu savsku djecu

Tijela su pokopana
Sad je red na Dunavu
Da u Crno More odnese fleku krvavu

Tonight there is sadness in town, tonight grief reigns
Everyone is calling for Him, but no one knows where God is
In town, a few maniacs are laughing, but most of them are crying tonight
Little snakes have crawled out, transformed themselves into donuts

Dead bodies, large, medium, and small
My river is red and the Sava swallows them, although she doesn't want to
She swallows those who wanted to swallow her, those who laughed and loved while they bathed in her
The river is in pain, you can see it from the foam that she throws on the shore
But she can't throw out what the snake put into her

Clouds are coming to help, sending rain to save the river
To make the red bloody stains disappear
The mermaid of the Sava is also sad, because her children are dead
She needs a shell to calm herself down, she needs some explanation

She needs air, she is suffocating with sadness
She would rather come up to the surface and die, even if she dries up
She calls her subjects, the catfish of the Sava
She orders them to prepare the human bodies for the graves
The bodies have to be buried as deep as possible
At the mouth of the Danube, where the river is deepest

And so the catfish drag the bodies, they also called a big pike
To chase other fish out of the way, if one doesn't get out of the way, the pike swallows it
And at the mouth, in the meantime, on the orders of the mermaid
The fish made a tomb for the innocent children of the Sava
