Secoli di pregiudizi e disinformazione hanno messo in cattiva luce il fenomeno mestrualepresso il grosso pubblico. Troppo spesso la donna colpita da questa bizzarra quanto innocua patologia ha sofferto dell'ostilit dei conoscenti, quanto del discredito che certa cattiva stampa ha gettato sul simpatico sciaquone (evento peraltro abbastanza diffuso presso certe popolazioni). Ecco che Elio e le Storie Tese dicono 'basta' a questa criminalizzazione, e si propongono come ideali continuatori di un'usanza - il ciclo mensile appunto - che si perde nella notte dei tempi e rischiava di scomparire a causa dell'insensibilit dei pi; quella stessa insensibilit che aveva generato negli anni 50 il binomio 'mestruazioni - disagio' e che cede il passo oggi ad una visione pi completa e rassicurante, in virt della quale "quei giorni" vengono vissuti come un momento di fantasia, gioia, intimit, colore.

Being a Woman Today

Centuries of prejudice and misinformation have cast a negative light on the phenomenon of menstruation among the general public. Too often, women affected by this bizarre yet harmless condition have suffered from the hostility of acquaintances, as well as from the discredit that certain bad press has thrown on the sympathetic flush (an event, moreover, quite common among certain populations). Here Elio e le Storie Tese say 'enough' to this criminalization, and propose themselves as ideal continuators of a custom - the monthly cycle - that is lost in the mists of time and risked disappearing due to the insensitivity of the pious; the same insensitivity that generated in the 50s the binomial 'menstruation - discomfort' and that gives way today to a more complete and reassuring vision, by virtue of which "those days" are lived as a moment of fantasy, joy, intimacy, color.
