Bis jetzt hab ich geglaubt, ich werd sie immer bei mir haben
Doch das war nur ein Traum, ich muss in den Kindergarten
So viele fremde Kinder in so kurzer Zeit, doch ich hab Tricks
Denn Papa brachte mir Fußball spielen und Mama brachte mir Murmeln bei
Ich erinnere mich, das erste Mal von den Eltern weg
Ein Knirps der auf dem Schulhof die große, weite Welt entdeckt
Ich wollte hier nicht sein, ich hab gedacht, ich überleb′s nicht

Mom wears a headscarf
Mom pushes me through the city park
She is not used to it when a stranger stares at her
Mom misses grandma, we two visit her in Tehran
We are not allowed to go back nine months later
We both flee to Germany
Mom goes to jail
Mom comes home again and she gets her passport
Dad is studying and he has three jobs
Sometimes you wake up when he comes home at night
Mom is asleep and he lies down next to her

Dad demonstrates because tanks are rolling in Yugoslavia
The furniture we had now all belongs to the tax office
But he says he can do it, a fresh start
We're moving out of the ghetto, we have new neighbours
So far, I thought I would always have them with me
But that was just a dream, I have to go to kindergarten
So many strange children in such a short time, but I have tricks
Because Dad taught me to play soccer and Mom brought me marbles
I remember being away from my parents for the first time
A kid who discovers the big, wide world in the schoolyard
I didn't want to be here, I thought I wouldn't survive
