Ante el África inmensa y la nada glacial
Así el fantasma enano
Que fue amurallado en vida real,

Se cuenta que un día desangró a una niña
En un matadero cerca del parral
Desde donde ojeaba como aquella niña
Besaba a un mancebo de nombre Marcial
Y así fue su marcha desde ese día
En Ciudad del Cabo nada volvió a entrar
Lo enterraron vivo, ladrillo a ladrillo
La niña encantada dejo de temblar
Y se fue despacio encantando a todos
Los ojos abiertos llenos de bondad
él comió cabezas de rana de monos,
Ojos de jirafa, padres del Brasil
Almas como ratas, flores y mandriles
Yeguas con cabezas llenas de Clotil
Devoró los ríos, todas las quebradas
Desde Purmamarca hasta Panamá
Trituró los dientes, las extremidades
Los páncreas infectos y la soledad
Por siempre jamás.
Pasaron los años y el fantasma enano caníbal
No tuvo ya nada que comer
Se encontró tan solo y tan desamparado
Que lloro un minuto, y no por compasión
Sino porque es para siempre
Mientras eructaba dulce tiburón
Durmió nueve siglos
Y una madrugada despertó exaltado, lleno de emoción
La niña encantada de Ciudad del Cabo
Le brindo su leche, le brindo ilusión
Ella había esperado bajo un mastodonte
Besar al caníbal y hacerlo feliz
Caminaron juntos ciudades vacías
Lejos de la orilla, cercanos al fin
Entonces fue encantado por esa mirada
A la que quito vida un día de abril
Y murió eternamente el fantasma caníbal
La niña del Cabo tuvo así que atarse
En una buhardilla de un techo en París
Cuando el lobo aúlla su furia infinita
Se huele un aroma perfecto y sutil
Es ella agita su turbia melena
Sobre aquella enana venganza de abril.

The Cannibal Ghost

The cannibal ghost and the enchanted girl from Cape Town
They became fast friends,
Under the oppressive, tropical sun
On a tragic and fantastical crossroads,
On the end of the world they swore brotherhood,
Before immense Africa and the glacial void
Thus the dwarf ghost
That was walled up during his life,
Dreamed of eternal vengeance for all the earth
And until he achieved it, he would never rest
It is said that one day he drained a girl of her blood
In an abattoir near the vineyard
From where he watched how that girl
Kissed a young man named Marcial
And so it was from that day
Cape Town never recovered
They buried him alive, brick by brick
The enchanted girl stopped trembling
And slowly went about enchanting everyone
Her eyes wide open, full of kindness
He ate the heads of monkeys, and frogs
The eyes of giraffe, fathers from Brazil
Souls like rats, flowers and mandrills
Mares with heads full of Clotilde
He devoured the rivers, all the streams
From Purmamarca to Panama
He crushed teeth, extremities
Infected pancreases and loneliness
For all eternity.
Years passed and the cannibal dwarf ghost
Had nothing left to eat
He found himself so alone and so helpless
That he cried for a minute, but not out of pity
But because it is forever
As he belched sweet shark
He slept for nine centuries
And one dawn he awoke, elated, filled with emotion
The enchanted girl from Cape Town
Offered him her milk, offered him hope
She had waited beneath a mastodon
To kiss the cannibal and make him happy
They walked together through empty cities
Far from the shore, close to the end
Then he was enchanted by that gaze
From which he took life one April day
And the cannibal ghost died eternally
The Cape girl had to tie herself up
In a garret on a roof in Paris
When the wolf howls its infinite fury
A perfect, subtle aroma can be smelled
It is she, shaking her cloudy mane
Over that dwarf's April vengeance.
