Il cielo dell'America son mille cieli sopra a un continente
Il cielo della Florida è uno straccio che è bagnato di celeste
Ma il cielo là in prigione non è cielo, è un qualche cosa che riveste

E fuori c'è una strada all'infinito, lunga come la speranza

Ma attorno alla prigione c'è un deserto dove spesso il vento danza

A Silvia là in prigione cosa resta? Non le resta che guardare

L'America è una statua che ti accoglie e simboleggia, bianca e pura
La libertà, e dall'alto, fiera, abbraccia tutta quanta la nazione
Per Silvia questa statua simboleggia solamente la prigione
Perché di questa piccola italiana ora l'America ha paura

Paura del diverso e del contrario, di chi lotta per cambiare
Paura delle idee di gente libera, che soffre, sbaglia e spera
Nazione di bigotti! Ora vi chiedo di lasciarla ritornare
Perché non è possibile rinchiudere le idee in una galera

Ma il cielo là rinchiusi non esiste, è solo un dubbio o un'intuizione
Mi chiedo se ci sono idee per cui valga restare là in prigione
E Silvia non ha ucciso mai nessuno e non ha mai rubato niente

Mi chiedo a cosa pensi alla mattina nel trovarsi il sole accanto
O come fa a scacciare fra quei muri la sua grande nostalgia
O quando un acquazzone all'improvviso spezza la monotonia
