On kauan seissyt päällä maan,
Niin vakaana ja paikallaan,
On nähnyt enemmän kuin mikään muu,
Tuo vanha seetripuu.
Nähnyt ihmisrodun lapsuusajan,
Maahan piirrettävän rajan,
Puisen nuijan iskuun nousevan.
Ihmiskunta sitten varttui,
Rautamiekkaan käsi tarttui.
Miehet komennettiin aseisiin
Ja sitten taisteltiin.
Päätti hiljainen tuo todistaja,
Vanhan puun on kerrottava,
Ihmisistä ehkä joku ymmärtää.
Ettekö te kuule, kuinka maa nyt valittaa.

Valtameret, metsät, vuoret tuuleen kirjoittaa
Lepohetki hetkiseksi meille suokaa,

Kun riittänyt ei keihäs, pistin,
Pystyttivät puisen ristin
Kohtalonsa siihen nauliten
Ja vielä pilkaten.
Ja niin piirrettiin taas uudet rajat,
Syntyi uudet puhdistajat.
Uskon vuoksi toista vainottiin.
Ja kansa nousi kansaa vastaan
Turhaan itki äidit lastaan
Uskottiin vain tykinpuheisiin
Ja jälleen taisteltiin,
Katsoi tuota puu kuin kauhu-unta

Onko tämä ihmiskunta?

It has long stood upon the earth,
So steadfastly and planted firmly in place,
It has seen more than anything else,
That old cedar tree.
Watched mankind's childhood,
A boundary drawn upon the earth,
The rising of a wooden club's impact.
Then mankind grew up,
A hand took up an iron sword.
Men were ordered to bear arms
And then they fought.
Decided that silent witness,
The old tree should speak,
Perhaps one of the people will understand.
Can't you hear how the earth now laments.
Can't you hear how the fields sigh.
Oceans, forests, mountains write in the wind
Grant us a moment's respite,
The earth now sighs, laments.
When spear and dagger were not enough,
They erected a wooden cross
Nailed their fate to it
And still mocked it.
And thus new boundaries were drawn again,
New purifiers were born.
One persecuted another because of belief.
And a nation rose against a nation
Mothers wept in vain for their children
Believed only in the speeches of the cannons
And again they fought,
The tree watched as if in a nightmare

Is this mankind?
