Dro djarflega drakk Þór
Orm eitrfáan upp at boroi;
Hamari koi háfjall skarar
Ofljótt ofan uifs hnit bróður.
Hraungalkn hlumou, en hölkn putu,
Fór in forna fold öll saman;
Sökköisk sidan sá fiske i mar.
Oteitr jötunn, er aftr reru,
Svá at år Hymir ekki mælti,
Vafði hann næði veður annars til.

Bravely did Thor drink
The venomous serpent up he bore;
The hammer's edge the mountains shattered
Headlong above his brother's brow.
The rocks resounded, and the billows roared,
The ancient earth all sank together;
Then sank the serpent in the sea.
The fearless giant, who behind did steer,
So that for wrath Hymir spake not,
Guided him safely to another shore.
