I en natt så klar og kald av en ung og tapper mor
I en krybbe i en stall fødtes håpet til vår jord
Så umerkelig så stille,
Byens gater helt forlatt,
Ingen opptog for den lille,
Lyset kom en vinternatt

Gjeterne satt rundt sin grue, skremtes opp av lys og lyd
Himmelen sto i veldig lue, engler sang om fred med fryd
Ikke frykt, vær ikke redde,
Gud har kommet til vår jord,
Nå i natt var det det skjedde,
Gå til barnet og hans mor

I det stille til de små,
Bringer Jesus håp om fred,
Og han kommer da som nå,
Fra himlen til oss ned.
Julenattvmed lys og glede
Minner oss om Gud som kom,
Evig er han her tilstede,
Nå står grav og krybbe tom.

On a Cold and Clear Night

In a night so clear and cold, by a young and valiant mother
In a manger in a stable, the hope of our earth was born
In such an unremarkable and silent manner,
The city streets, completely deserted.
No procession for the little one,
The light came on a winter night

The shepherds sat around their fire, startled by the light and sound.
The sky flared in a mighty blaze, angels sang of peace with delight.
Fear not, do not be afraid,
God has come to our earth
This night was when it happened,
Go to the child and his mother

To the little ones, in silence,
Jesus brings hope of peace.
And he comes as he did then,
From heaven down to us.
Christmas night, with light and joy,
Reminds us that God came.
He is eternally here, present,
Now the tomb and manger are empty.
