Auf dem höchsten Zweig der Birke vorm Haus
Singt die Amsel. Liebste, komm mit mir hinaus
Setzen wir uns und hören ihr Lied

Bei einem Glas Wein im Abendrot
Hier ist es friedlich, die Luft mild und still
Auch wenn da draußen die Welt dies Idyll
Nicht will und uns bedroht.

Das Haus ist bezahlt. Keine Schulden. Was für ein Glück
Wir legen sogar was für′s Alter zurück
Kein schlechtes Gefühl, doch nun sagt man uns:
Wer Schulden bezahlt, ist asozial
Und wer spart, der hemmt und blockiert damit nur
Den Fluss des Geldes und der Konjunktur
Ach, weißt du, die können uns mal

Hierzulande gibt's Leute, die reden schon
- Das Wohl aller im Blick – ganz offen davon
Ob man uns später nicht töten soll
Denn wir schadeten der Wirtschaft, sind wir erst mal alt
Und wir sollen es dulden, ergeben und still
Aber uns darf die Wirtschaft – so viel sie will
Schaden. Sie ist die Staatsgewalt

So vieles läuft falsch auf der Welt und sie steht
Auf dem Kopf, ist verbogen, verdreht
Theodor Wiesengrund Adorno sagt, dass es
Kein richtiges Leben im falschen gibt*
Und doch kommt hin und wieder, so scheint es mir
Mal ein guter Moment, so wie dieser hier
Wo man selbst dies Leben liebt

Und dass wir beide nach so langer Zeit
Noch zusammen sind. Fast eine Ewigkeit
Darauf trinken wir, stoß mit mir an
Hab′ nie recht dran geglaubt, es nur immer gehofft
Kommt ja vor, dass sich jemand vom jemandem trennt
Den er schon dreißig Jahre lang kennt
Hört man doch in letzter Zeit oft

Der Mond geht auf, steigt höher und gleich
Spiegelt er sich mit dem Himmel im Teich
Mit den Wolken, den Bäumen am Ufer und jetzt
Schwimmt schon im Wasser der erste Stern
Auf so richtige Art auf den Kopf gestellt
Und in Ruhe betrachtet, gefällt uns die Welt
Ja, damit leben wir gern

On the highest branch of the birch tree in front of our house
The blackbird sings. Come with me my dearest, let's wander
Let's sit down and listen to its repertoire

With a glass of wine in the evening red
The air is mild and still here, it's peaceful here
Even if the world out there won't have this idyll
It doesn't want it and it threatens us.

The house is paid off. No debts. How lucky we are
We even put something away for retirement
Not a bad feeling, but now we are told:
Those who pay off their debts are asocial
And those who save, they inhibit and block the flow
Of money and thus the economy
Oh, you know, we can kiss their asses

Over here, there are people who already talk
- The well-being of all in mind - openly about it
About whether we shouldn't be killed later
Because, once we are old, we damage the economy
And we should accept it, compliant and silent
But the economy can damage us - as much as it wants
It is the state power

So many things are wrong with the world and it stands
Upside down, warped, twisted
Theodor Wiesengrund Adorno says, that there is
No correct life in the false one*
And yet, from time to time, it seems to me
A good moment comes, like this one here
When one loves this life oneself

And that the two of us, after all this time
Are still together. Almost an eternity
Let's drink to that, cheers
I never really believed in it, I only hoped for it
It happens that someone separates from someone else
Whom they have known for thirty years
We hear about it often these days

The moon rises, ascends higher and soon
It will be reflected in the pond with the sky
With the clouds, the trees on the shore and now
The first star is already swimming in the water
Upside down in such the correct way
And when contemplated calmly, we like the world
Yes, we are happy to live with that
