هر شور وشری که در جهان است
زان غمزهٔ مست دلستان است
گفتم لب اوست جان، خرد گفت
جان چیست مگو چه جای جان است
وصفش چه کنی که هرچه گویی
گویند مگو که بیش از آن است
در عشق فنا و محو و مستی
سرمایهٔ عمر جاودان است
در عشق چو یار بی نشان شو
کان یار لطیف بینشان است
تو آینهٔ جمال اویی
و آینهٔ تو همه جهان است
ما را سر بودن جهان نیست
ما را سر یار مهربان است

Without a Sign

Every passion and joy in the world
Is from those intoxicating eyes of the heart-stealing one
I said her lips are my life, but wisdom said
Don't say what life is, it's beyond life
How can you describe her, for whatever you say
They will say, don't say it, it's more than that
In love, surrender, dissolve, and become intoxicated
It is the wealth of eternal life
In love, become without a sign of yourself
For that beloved is a subtle and intimate one
You are a mirror of her beauty
And all the world is a mirror of you
We have no desire to be in charge of the world
We have set our hearts on the compassionate beloved
