Et Verbum

No princípio morava o Verbo e em Deus vivia,
Nele sua felicidade infinita possuía
O mesmo Verbo Deus era e o princípio se dizia
Ele morava no princípio e princípio não havia
Ele era o mesmo princípio, por isso d'Ele carecia.
O Verbo se chama Filho, pois do princípio nascia.
Ele sempre O concebeu, e sempre O conceberia.
Dá-Lhe sempre sua substância e sempre a conservaria.
E assim a glória do Filho é a que no Pai havia
E toda a glória do Pai no Seu Filho a possuía.
Como Amado no Amante, um no outro residia
E esse Amor que Os une no mesmo coincidia.
Et Verbum caro factum est.

And the Word

In the beginning was the Word and lived in God,
In Him his infinite happiness possessed
The same Word God was and the beginning was said
He dwelt in the beginning and beginning was not there
He was the same principle, that's why he needed him.
The Word is called Son, because from the beginning he was born.
He always conceived it, and would always conceive it.
He always gives him his substance and would always keep it.
And so the glory of the Son is that which in the Father was there
And all the glory of the Father in His Son possessed it.
As the Beloved in the Lover, one in the other resided
And this Love that unites them in the same coincided.
And the Word was made flesh.
