En la ciudad de los muertos, donde crecen amapolas,
Las mujeres tienden ropa sobre lápidas sin nombres,
Los niños entre las tumbas juegan a salvar sus vidas
Y se esconden de otros niños, del hambre o de escuadrones.
La ciudad de los muertos ya de mañana agoniza
Y no hay quien les represente en las Naciones Unidas.
En todas las ciudades se habita un cementerio
Donde se exilian los muertos.

En la ciudad de los muertos no se para el autobús,
Cuando la parca se duerma el muerto cenará sin luz.
Un muerto que tirita porque allí siempre es invierno,
Te ofrece un cigarrillo, te invita a su mausoleo.
Nadie les tiene en cuenta en el plan nacional,
Ni al hacer las estadísticas del Banco Mundial.
En la ciudad de los muertos talaron todos los sauces,
Es terreno edificable.

La ciudad de los muertos está rebosando vida
