Jestem postacią na wskroś tragiczną
Najtrudniejszegom dokonał wyboru:
Między obozem dla nieprawomyślnych
A honorami i łaską dworu.

Obeznanemu w snach filozofów
Trudno jest mówić gwarą kaprali
I nosić mundur, ale po trochu
Co tylko można - trzeba ocalić!

Inni odeszli. Łatwa decyzja
Zwłaszcza, że nikt ich o nią nie pytał,
Lecz trudno - tego wymaga Ojczyzna,
Rzecz niepodzielna i jednolita.

Ja wiem, ja także z wami marzyłem
Dałem się ponieść mglistym mirażom
Lecz tylko siłą zwalczymy siłę
I zadepczemy groby, gdy każą!

Niech nikt mi kartą praw nie wywija,
Gdy chcę mam prawo piętnować Żyda!
Żołnierz jest po to, żeby zabijać,
Nawet gdy rozkaz sam sobie wyda.

Nie będzie pisał oszczerczych bredni
Drań, co Helsinki bierze za Jałtę
Bój o pryncypia - mój chleb powszedni,
Bez wahań zmienię pióro na pałkę!

Niech nikt krwią cudzą rąk mi nie kala,
Dzieje nie takie znają ofiary!
Niech wie, kto chciał już pomniki zwalać -
Winny nie ujdzie w tym kraju kary!

I wypiszemy wszystkim na skórze
Prawa człowieka i obywatela!
Prawo do pracy! Miejsce - przy murze!
I syna twarz w plutonie, co strzela!

A kiedy wszystko do ładu wróci
W szafach należne miejsce mundurom,
Snów filozofów młodzież się uczy
A ręka zmienia pałkę na pióro...

I am a deeply tragic character
I made the most difficult choice:
Between a camp for dissidents
And the honors and favor of the court.

Accustomed to the dreams of philosophers
It is difficult for me to speak the lingo of corporals
And wear a uniform, but little by little
Whatever is possible - must be saved!

Others left. Easy decision
Especially since no one asked them about it,
But it's hard - the Motherland demands it,
An indivisible and uniform thing.

I know, I also dreamed with you
I let myself be carried away by foggy mirages
But only by force can we defeat force
And trample the graves, when they order us to!

Let no one wave the card of rights at me,
When I want to, I have the right to brand a Jew!
A soldier is there to kill,
Even when he gives the order to himself.

He will not write slanderous nonsense
The scoundrel who takes Helsinki for Yalta
The fight for principles - my daily bread,
Without hesitation I will change the pen for a truncheon!

Let no one stain my hands with someone else's blood,
History knows such sacrifices!
Let him know who already wanted to tear down the monuments -
The guilty will not escape punishment in this country!

And we will write on everyone's skin
The rights of man and citizen!
The right to work! Place - at the wall!
And the son's face in the firing squad!

And when everything is back in order
Uniforms where they belong - in the closets,
Youth learns the dreams of philosophers
And the hand changes the truncheon for the pen...
