El topo dijo: ¡qué caray
Siempre viviendo bajo tierra
Sin darme una vuelta por ahí,
Ni que estuviéramos en guerra!
La vida pasa sin color
Por este oscuro laberinto,
Voy a salir al exterior
A ver si veo algo distinto.
Así, este topo que jamás
Vio más allá de sus narices,
Que conoció todo lo más
Una patata y tres lombrices,
Diciendo "chao, hay que vivir"
A su mundillo subterráneo
Salió dispuesto a descubrir
De nuevo el mar Mediterráneo.
Acababa de anochecer
Cuando emergió de su recinto
Y había que reconocer
Que aquello no era muy distinto.
Y, sin embargo, al animal
Le pareció tan deslumbrante
Que le irritaba el lagrimal
La luna en su cuarto menguante.
"Yo nunca he visto ni un farol,
Yo siempre he estado en la penumbra,
Ahora que veo este gran sol
La vista no se me acostumbra",
El topo dijo. Y se volvió
Corriendo para su topera
De donde nunca mas salió.
¡Ay, qué vida tan puñetera!

The Mole

The mole said: What the heck
Always living underground
Without taking a stroll around,
As if we were at war!
Life goes by without color
In this dark labyrinth,
I'm going to go outside
To see if I can see something different.
So, this mole who never
Saw beyond its nose,
Who knew nothing more than
A potato and three worms,
Saying "Goodbye, you have to live"
To his underground world
He went out ready to discover
The Mediterranean Sea again.
It was just getting dark
When he emerged from his burrow
And one had to admit
That it wasn't much different.
And, nevertheless, to the animal
It seemed so dazzling
That it irritated his tear ducts
The moon in its waning quarter.
"I've never seen even a lantern,
I've always been in the shadows,
Now that I see this great sun
My eyes can't get used to it,"
The mole said. And he turned around
Running back to his burrow
From which he never left again.
