La Casa de Fieras

Preocupado como estoy,
Por los dramas de la vida,
Me fui a la Casa de fieras.
No tiene animales hoy,
Pero mi niñez florida,
Evocó tigres, panteras ...
Y evocó al pavo real,
Al chimpancé y a la leona,
Y aquel olor apestoso,
De la hiena y el chacal,
Y al dromedario en persona,
Y al elefante y al oso.
Mucha fauna se veía.
Oso panda no, no había.
Donde la Casa de fieras siguen los niños jugando,
Los ancianos, sin embargo, ahora son tercera edad.
Se ven parados en paro y mendigos mendigando.
Y gente que habla de toros. Y que si la crueldad.
Y me pide mi opinión,
Una extranjera de paso,
Sobre los toreadores.
-Pues que no tiene perdón-
Digo por hacerle caso
-Eso de los picadores.
-Desde luego es lo peor-
Me comenta pensativa.
-Sí, desde luego, es un fallo
-Le respondo- da dolor,
Esa imagen vomitiva,
De alguien montado a caballo.
Me mira con extrañeza.
¿Cobraré esta hermosa pieza?
-Al caballo se le humilla, la doma es algo inhumano,
Que se te suban encima, que te lo hicieran a ti,
Tener que llevar a lomos -y ahí le alargo la mano-
A un parásito, a una rémora ... oye, qué bien se está aquí.
Donde la casa de fieras, siguen los niños jugando,
Los ancianos, sin embargo, ahora son tercera edad.
Se ven parados en paro y mendigos mendigando,
Y gente que habla de amor. Y que si la crueldad.

The Animal House

My mind is preoccupied lately,
With the dramas of life,
I took myself off to the Animal House.
There were no animals there today,
But my years of happy youth,
Conjured up tigers, panthers ...
And it conjured up the peacock,
The chimpanzee and the lioness,
And that stinking smell,
Of the hyena and the jackal,
And the camel in person,
And the elephant and the bear.
A lot of wildlife was to be seen.
But no giant panda.
Where the Animal House used to be, children still play,
The elderly, however, are now senior citizens.
You see the unemployed, and beggars begging.
And people talking about bullfighting. And about cruelty.
And a woman from abroad,
Asks for my opinion
On bullfighters.
-Well, it's unforgivable-
I said, just to humour her.
-This business of the picadors.
-Certainly that's the worst of it-
She said pensively.
-Yes, of course, it's wrong-
I replied- it pains me,
That sickening image,
Of someone on horseback.
She looked at me strangely.
Have I landed myself a catch?
-Horses are abused, it's inhumane to break them in,
Having someone on your back, imagine if they did it to you,
Having to carry a parasite on your back -and here I put out my hand-
A sponger, a leech ... oh, this is a fine place to be.
