So the Cuckoo flew down to the corner where the big roads meet
And up sat he in a big tall tree and he began to tweet
And people they all stopped and out of curiosity
They followed the little Cuckoo as he flew from tree to tree

Follow me and don't be shy
And from that day the folks all came a crowding through the door
And Klaas had a grin from ear to ear he could not ask for more
And the Cuckoo kept on calling on the window sill
And that's the very reason there was money in the till

And Klaas's shop was saved
Then the Cuckoo said I like Klaas and I'd like you to know
I got my name from a faithful servant that lived long ago
And if I can be of service I'll live up to my name
The servant's name was Klaas our names are just the same

Es war einmal ein kleiner Mann namens Klaas,
und er hatte einen Handelsposten draußen in der Wildnis.
Und obwohl er Wegweiser aufstellte, war es vergeblich,
niemand konnte seinen Laden finden, weit abseits der ausgetretenen Pfade.
Und in diesem Laden hatte er wirklich so schöne Dinge zu verkaufen,
Lollis und Zuckerwatte und köstliche Limonade,
Souvenirs und Ingwerbier und schöne kleine Spielsachen,
genau das Richtige für Erwachsene und kleine Mädchen und Jungen.
Eines Tages kam ein kleiner grüner Kuckuck vorbeigeflogen,
er schaute durchs Fenster und sah, dass Klaas kurz vor dem Weinen stand.
Es gab einfach keine Kunden und er müsste den Laden schließen.
Der Kuckuck sagte: „Ich helfe dir, Klaas, du wirst sehen, also gib nicht auf.“
Sehr billig, sehr billig, schien der Kuckuck zu sagen,
es war Klaas' Glückstag.
Also flog der Kuckuck hinunter zur Ecke, wo sich die großen Straßen treffen,
und setzte sich in einen großen, hohen Baum und begann zu zwitschern.
Und die Leute hielten alle an und aus Neugier
folgten sie dem kleinen Kuckuck, als er von Baum zu Baum flog.
Sehr billig, sehr billig, kommt und kauft,
folgt mir und seid nicht schüchtern.
Und von diesem Tag an kamen die Leute alle durch die Tür gedrängt,
und Klaas hatte ein Grinsen von Ohr zu Ohr, er konnte sich nicht mehr wünschen.
Und der Kuckuck rief weiter auf dem Fensterbrett,
und das war der eigentliche Grund, warum Geld in der Kasse war.
Sehr billig, sehr billig, und alle schwärmten,
und Klaas' Laden war gerettet.
Dann sagte der Kuckuck: „Ich mag Klaas und ich möchte, dass du weißt,
ich habe meinen Namen von einem treuen Diener, der vor langer Zeit lebte.
Und wenn ich dir zu Diensten sein kann, werde ich meinem Namen gerecht.
Der Name des Dieners war Klaas, unsere Namen sind gleich.“
