La Cieguita

A pesar de mucho tiempo
Desde entonces transcurrido
Aun mi pecho conmovido
Se recuerda con dolor

De aquel día que paseando vi en un banco una cieguita
Y a su lado una viejita que era su guía y su amor
Y observe que la chiquilla de ojos grandes y vacíos
Escuchaba el griterío de otras nenas al saltar

Y la oí que amargamente en un son, que era de queja
Preguntaba a la vieja, ¿Por qué yo no he de jugar?
Y a punto fijo a la ausencia del dolor que sentí
Fue escuchando la voz de heladera

O fue que cuando mire
A su vieja advertí que lloraba en silencio su pena
Ay cieguita, dije yo con gran pesar
Ven conmigo pobrecita, le dio un beso y la cieguita
Tu voz ya con quien jugar

Y así fue que diariamente al llegar con su viejita
Le buscaba la cieguita con tantísimo interés
Que feliz era la pobre, cuando junto a mi llegaba
Y con su mismo lograba que jugásemos los tres

Pero un día bien me acuerdo, no fue mas que la viejita
Que me dijo la cieguita "esta apunto de expirar"
Fui corriendo hasta su cuna, la cieguita se moría
Y al morirse me decía, ¿Con quien vas ahora jugar?

Y a punto fijo a la ausencia del dolor que sentí
Fue escuchando la voz de heladera

O fue que cuando mire
A su vieja advertí que lloraba en silencio su pena
Ay cieguita, yo no te podre olvidar
Pues me acuerdo de mi hijita
Que también era cieguita y no podía jugar

The Blind Girl

Despite much time
Having passed since then
My chest still moves with emotion
Remembering with pain

That day that, as I was walking, I saw a blind girl on a bench
And by her side an old woman who was her guide and her love
And I noticed that the little girl with big, empty eyes
Listened to the shouting of other girls as they jumped

And I heard her ask bitterly, in a tone that was a complaint
To the old woman, "Why can't I play?"
And I was moved by the absence of the pain that I felt
When I heard her icy voice

Or was it when I looked
At her old woman, I noticed she was crying silently for her pain
Oh blind girl, I said with great sorrow
Come with me, poor little thing, I'll give you a kiss and the blind girl
Your voice will now have someone to play with

And so it was that every day when she arrived with her old woman
The blind girl would look for me with so much interest
That the poor girl was happy when she arrived next to me
And with her voice she managed to get the three of us to play

But one day, I remember it well, it was only the old woman
Who told me the blind girl "is about to die"
I ran to her crib, the blind girl was dying
And as she was dying she said to me, "Who will you play with now?"

And I was moved by the absence of the pain that I felt
