Am Ende vom Tal,
Von den Bergen umragt,
Steht ein uraltes Haus,
Von Wind und von Wetter zernagt.
Jahrhunderte lang
Gab′s da Freude und Leid,
Aber nun steht es leer,
Ausgeliefert der Zeit!

Das Haus mit den weinenden Fenstern
Steht allein und verlassen am Hang.
Im Garten, da blüh'n noch die Rosen,
Doch niemand erfreut sich daran.
Die Freunde sind langst schon gegangen,
Und der letzte Baum wird gefällt!
Doch das Haus mit den weinenden Fenstern,
Es ist einsam bis es ganz verfallt!

Die Söhne sind fort,
Fielen einst nur zur Last.
In der Stadt haben sie
Doch niemals so recht Fuß efaßt!
Voll Schwermut im Herz
Stehen sie an der Bar
Und erzählen der Nacht,
Wie′s zuhause mal war.
Aus Dolomitenstein erbaut
Und für die Ewigkeit gedacht,
Hat es die Menschen stets beschützt
Vor der Kälte der Nacht.

At the end of the valley,
Surrounded by mountains,
Stands an ancient house,
Ravaged by wind and weather.
For centuries
There has been joy and sorrow here,
But now it stands empty,
Abandoned to time!

The house with the crying windows
Stands alone and deserted on the slope.
In the garden, the roses still bloom,
But no one enjoys them anymore.
The friends are long gone,
And the last tree is felled!
But the house with the crying windows,
It is lonely until it completely decays!

The sons left,
Were once only a burden.
In the city they have
But never really got their feet wet!
With melancholy in their hearts
They stand at the bar
And tell the night,
How it used to be at home.
Built from dolomitic stone
And made for eternity,
It has always protected people
From the cold of the night.
