Die Nacht verschenkt ihr graues Band
Zu früh ersteigt die Silberwand,
Wenn kühl der Morgen aufgewacht,
Noch ist sie still, die Stadt.
Nur in der Gosse regt sich schon
Ein kleiner mieser Kammerton,
'Ne halbwegs weiße Taube singt
Von 'nem besseren Land.
Und auf dem breiten Boulevard,
Wo gestern noch Gelächter war,
Sind alle Stühle hochgeklappt,
Ja, sie ist still, die Stadt,
Und durch den Nebel, der zerbricht,
Siehst du ganz fern das Licht,
Gesichter Staub am Horizont,
Die Karawane kommt.

Alte Kneipe, tuts auch weh,

Die Stadt macht ihre Fenster auf,
Hängt großkarierte Bettten raus.

Das hält ihn nicht.

Hört er sie aus der Vorstadt nahn,
Ein Mädchen führt die Vielen an -

Und schmeiß dich in die große Welt,
Soviel gibts, was du lernen mußt,
Im Überfluß.
Schnür dir dein Bündel ruhig gut,
Laß dir's nicht nehmen, du brauchst Mut
Für diesen Trip aus eigner Hand
Ins fremde Land.
Und sie reden von Angst und Flucht,
Die haben niemals was gesucht,
Was sie so traurig stimmt
Ist, daß sie so mutlos sind.
Und lerne viel im anderen Land,
Komm zurück, geh uns zur Hand,
