In meinem Kiez feierten wir Weihnachten und Ostern

In my neighborhood, there's an old street,

And most of the people there owned
Enough for a home improvement loan and an indoor toilet.

In my neighborhood, there was a corner store,
Where our fathers could be seen standing in the evenings,
It smelled like cigarettes,

And they drowned the past while standing up

In my neighborhood, there was a miracle called Amor,
A small cinema, the size of an old cardboard box,
Where Tom, Dick, and Harry met
On plastic-covered marble,
And for a few hours, we escaped

The gentlemen in blue and the ladies wore cologne
To the films of Sica and Ben Hur,
And we sat and forgot
Our longing street
In the jungles of India and the lights of Eschnapur

In my neighborhood, we celebrated Christmas and Easter,
And every celebration was also a toast

We skipped school and spent enormous amounts of money,
And none of us thought about dear money any more.

I went downstairs and stood behind the door,
