Komm, sing doch mal ein schönes Lied,
Es sollte deutsch für Deutsche sein,
Mit deutschem Mut, vereinten Sinns:
Ich weiß nicht, soll ich lachen, soll ich schrein.

Als könnte man stets überall
Eindeutig Position beziehn,
Ich bin verwirrt in diesem Fall
Und komm mir vor wie ausgeliehn.

Ob deutsches Blut, ob deutscher Geist,
Ob deutscher Stahl, ob deutscher Sand,
Mir fehlt nun mal, was soll ich tun,
Das rechte Herz fürs Vaterland.

Vielleicht bin ich ein alter Sack,
Der noch von achtundsechzig träumt,
Von Bier und Beifall aufgeschwemmt,
Schon lang den letzten Zug versäumt.

Doch träum ich immer noch und bleib
Verrückt nach meinen Utopien
Die allerdings hat man mir hier
Wie damals drüben nie verziehn.

Ich singe deutsch, so gut ich's kann
Und lieg sehr gern am Isarstrand,
Und doch, mir fehlt es nun einmal,
Das rechte Herz fürs Vaterland.

Jetzt rasen sie zum Ausverkauf,
Die Wucherer und Makler und
Das ganze Leichenschänderpack,
Und tun sich groß und geben kund

Und grölen von der alten Mär,
Vom Wunder, das zu guter Letzt
Nur ihnen hilft, und übrig bleibt
Ein Volk: verraten, aufgehetzt.

Man müßte es behutsam und
Besonnen pflegen, dieses Pfand -
Ich weiß, schon gut, mir fehlt nun mal
Das rechte Herz fürs Vaterland.

Und wo versteckt man heute die,
Die kürzlich wirklich vorneweg
Als neue klare Melodie
Die Füße stemmten in den Dreck.

Wer hat das alles eingeheimst?
In welchen Schlund fiel diese Zeit,
Fiel dieser viel zu kurze Herbst
Der Wärme und der Einigkeit?

Was war das doch für ein Triumph,
Als Mauern bröckelten zu Sand,
Da hatte ich für kurze Zeit
Ein Herz für dieses Vaterland.

Prost Deutschland! Alles Gute und
Ich hoff, du hältst, was man verspricht.
Ich lach und streite gern mit dir,
Doch mit dir jubeln,
Mir dir jubeln will ich erstmal nicht!

Was wuchs zusammen frag ich mich,

Die Menschen aber trennten sich
Und das vereinte Land ist klamm.

Dann war ich voller Hoffnung
Auf die Enkel der korrupten alten Herrn
Und dachte grün und wählte rot
Und hatte dieses Land für einen Sommer richtig gern.

Die machten sich ja auch
Seit 68 auf den langen Marsch.
Jetzt kriechen sie der Nato
Und der Wirtschaft wie die andern in den Arsch.

Was machen die mit sich und uns,
Wir gaben ihnen doch die Hand
Und hofften, so als pflüge wieder
Licht das Herz fürs Vaterland.

Müßten sie's nicht behutsam
Und besonnen pflegen dieses Band?
Na gut mir fehlt schon wieder mal
Das Herz für dieses Vaterland.

Now they're rushing to the sell-out,
The usurers and brokers and
The whole pack of body snatchers,
And they act big and announce

And roar about the old fairy tale,
About the miracle that in the end
Only helps them, and what remains
Is a people: betrayed, agitated.

One would have to carefully and
Prudently cultivate this pledge -
I know, alright, I'm missing it,
The right heart for the fatherland.

And where do you hide them today,
Those who recently really led the way
As a new clear melody
Planting their feet in the dirt.

Who has reaped all of this?
Into what abyss did this time fall,
Did this far too short autumn fall
Of warmth and unity?

What a triumph it was,
When walls crumbled to sand,
For a short time I had
A heart for this fatherland.

Cheers Germany! All the best and
I hope you keep your promises.
I like to laugh and argue with you,
But to cheer with you,
To cheer with you, I don't want to for now!
