Gåsa og katten og hanen
Var leie av livet her.
No ville dei ut i verda
Og freiste si lukke der.
Her går vi på bondebygda
Som åte for rev og ramn.

So luffa dei gjennom Skåne
Og lydde på messa i Lund,
Og gåsa ferja dei over
Til Kronborg ved Øresund.
Tidleg ein måndags morgon
Nådde dei kongens by
Lerka song over Sjælland
Og hanefar gol mot sky.

Dei spurde seg fram til slottet,
Og vakta gjorde honnør.
So skulle dei syne kongen
Kva kunster dei kunne frå før.
Katten var fyrst i elden
Og katten fekk lønn for strev:
Kongeleg musefangar
Det stod på hans embetsbrev.

Gåsa vart overkokke,
Og var som eit syn å sjå
I nystiva blondekappe
Med kongens våpen på.
Men hanen kom høgst i korga
Og skikka seg bra, får vi tru,
For han skulle vekke kongen

Fable

The goose and the cat and the rooster
Were tired of life here.
Now they wanted to go out into the world
And try their luck there.
Here we go in the countryside
As food for fox and raven.
No, then times are different with the king in Copenhagen.

So they tramped through Skåne
And listened to the mass in Lund,
And the goose ferried them over
To Kronborg at Øresund.
Early one monday morning
They reached the king's city
The lark sang over Zealand
And the rooster crowed towards the sky.
