The Princess and the Pea

Once upon a time, a young prince sought a bride,
He searched the world for a princess, far and wide.
One stormy night, a knock came to the door,
The bell rang out, who could it be, they wondered more?

The door swung open, and there in the rain,
Stood a young maiden, "Please," she said, "ease my pain."
The kind queen said, "Stay with us tonight, dear guest,"
And placed a tiny pea, beneath the princess's test.

Twenty mattresses high, a towering stack,
"Sleep well," they said, "until the morning light comes back."

The maiden tossed and turned, the bed felt so wrong,
She couldn't sleep a wink, the whole night long.
It's her, it's her, the real princess, no doubt,
The pea beneath the mattress, she surely found out!

The prince had found his bride, at last, it's true,
"Will you marry me?" he asked, "With all my heart, I do!"
The prince and the pea princess, lived happily ever after,
A sweet and joyful ending, a beautiful fairy tale chapter.
