You're in luck, 'cos last night it happened again,
I was feeling creative about twenty to ten.
So I sharpened a pencil, then I wore down its end,
And now soon you'll have something to share with your friends.

It took twenty minutes to write down this song,
Tune's public domain, but I didn't do wrong,
I chewed up the pencil, and the eraser's all gone,
Scratched my head and my balls, but it didn't take long.

Songwriting's not so hard, it's well understood,
Anyone can do it, and everyone should,
And I'm sure you could write and sing something as good,
With some balls and a pencil, I'm sure that you would.

A PC's like a crowbar, it's only a tool,
Music flows like water from a big public pool,
But I wanna get paid for my work, but I'm a fool,
Because trading and sharing's so awesome and cool.

I don't mean to be flip, I don't wanna be pat.
And those Metallica guys are all getting too fat!

Etwas für Nichts

Du kannst einen meiner Songs einfach aus der Luft greifen.
Nur zu, lade mich runter, mal sehen, ob's mich kümmert!
In der Liebe, im Krieg und im Cyberspace ist alles erlaubt,
Und es ist okay zu stehlen, denn es ist so schön zu teilen.

Du hast Glück, denn letzte Nacht ist es wieder passiert,
Ich fühlte mich kreativ so gegen zwanzig vor zehn.
Also spitzte ich einen Bleistift, dann nutzte ich sein Ende ab,
Und bald wirst du etwas haben, das du mit deinen Freunden teilen kannst.

Es dauerte zwanzig Minuten, dieses Lied niederzuschreiben,
Die Melodie ist gemeinfrei, aber ich tat nichts Falsches,
Ich zerkautе den Bleistift, und der Radiergummi ist ganz weg,
Kratzte mich am Kopf und an den Eiern, aber es dauerte nicht lange.

Songschreiben ist nicht so schwer, das ist wohlbekannt,
Jeder kann es tun, und jeder sollte es tun,
Und ich bin sicher, du könntest etwas ebenso Gutes schreiben und singen,
Mit etwas Mut und einem Bleistift, ich bin sicher, das würdest du.

Ein PC ist wie ein Brecheisen, er ist nur ein Werkzeug,
Musik fließt wie Wasser aus einem großen öffentlichen Schwimmbad,
Aber ich will für meine Arbeit bezahlt werden, doch ich bin ein Narr,
Weil Tauschen und Teilen so fantastisch und cool ist.

Ich will nicht flapsig sein, ich will nicht platt sein.
Und diese Metallica-Typen werden alle zu fett!
